He never should have been given that power. He's just one guy.

He’s a guy with a platform who exploited and exacerbated the already toxically divisive politics climate for personal gain. Sometimes all you need is a match to ignite a forest fire. The guy is also criminally stupid.....he deserves every bit of vilification and then some.

Why do you want to vilify him and not others for the exact same thing? Hmmm...interesting.

Who are these other people that have faked a homophobic and racist attack? I’ll wait imbecile.

Let’s see. Who do we has LIED to “exploit and exacerbate the already toxic/divisive political climate”??

This is the point. We are giving people more power than they deserve. Trump is horrible. But he's not responsible for dividing the country. The country has let itself be divided. Declaring, "here is my camp, forever and always" and evaluating every issue based on the party line allows that to happen. Trump exploited an environment that exists, and so did Smollett.

I am just saying people need to be more circumspect and evaluate things themselves.

Good lord, you’re as dumb as Smollet.

Agree 100%. That’s what I’ve been posted all along. Wait for the police statement.

By not changing it, it reminds everyone of the implicit bias here. There is no way anyone can argue that this site is a fair arena for discussion, that there isn’t a very heavy thumb on the ideological scale. Not when things like this stand.

I hope the thread title is never changed.

Well, I get that point -- that liberals jumped on the bandwagon fast on this one. But I would point out the same happens on the other side, too.

In the cases where conservatives or Republicans jump at something, Jeff quickly edits the subject for accuracy or removes the thread.

Those pointing out that he hasn't done so for this thread are pointing out the double standard.

Many prominent people on the left have tweeted about this at the end of January. Besides Pelosi's already deleted tweet Joe Biden, Maxine Waters, Cher, Katy Perry, Bernie Sanders, Cory Booker and Kamalia Harris (to name a few) all came to Jessie's support and continued with the agenda of MAGA is bad! Now they aren't so sure...

LOL that Pelosi deleted her tweet..sarcastic clap for you, girlfriend

Oh? He didn't deliberately invoke "MAGA" having seen the witch hunting that causes?
He didn't deliberately say he was called hateful words that also incite aggressive response - and he wasn't aware that many people argue that aggressive responses to words like the n-word are justified and appropriate?

With the vitriol people dumped on a teenager who dared to exist, it's a bit much to expect us to agree that a grown man shouldn't be held accountable for his actual actions and to believe he couldn't have known that he was deliberately setting up a situation that would ignite.

You are making my point. MAGA is now a witch hunt. Jussie Smollett is a two-bit, unimaginative loser who offered up a story that lit people's fires. Of course, he should be held accountable for the crime. But this claim that he "set up a situation that would ignite"...that's on you, not him. People have dug in their heels so deeply that they no longer listen to reason. Every event is a tinderbox, on both sides.

Let's see.
I think illegal immigration is an important issue.
How about if I went out and falsely claimed that an illegal immigrant beat me up, said some horribly racist things, and threatened to kill me? Or, better yet, suppose a conservative actor went out and made these claims. Maybe Roseanne Barr......

Would you think that this action should be commended? I think we know the answer...........

When we see the same reporters instantaneously believe the smear of Covington Catholic, and then instantaneously believe Jessie Smollett's far-fetched story, and then the media establishment decide the story is conservatives pouncing, it can breed distrust in the media.

Has anyone viewed his video F.U.W. from 2017????

Before anyone makes one apologetic remark supporting this man, parse through his videos to that one. smh. sorry if it has been previously cited.

DP here.
So, you are upset that Trump supporters were offended by his false allegations? You are joking, right?
Do you know how many celebrities and politicians made derogatory comments about Trump supporters because of his claim?
So the fact that he ignited a maelstrom of hate is on HIM. He knew damn well what he was doing.

Ever heard of The Boy Who Cried Wolf? Smollett has done far more harm than good, and for that alone he should be ashamed.

If he did it to highlight the neccesity of the Kamela Harris anti-lynching law than maybe it was worth doing? That said, the investigation has not been concluded and many of the "leaks" have been dubious.

You can’t possibly be that stupid.
