Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift engaged!

What stands out to me in this moment is Taylor’s silence. In the Miss Americana documentary, she was politically outspoken and willing to risk her brand by speaking about women’s rights and elections. But now, through ICE raids, the rollback of reproductive rights, an increase in gun violence, devastating conflicts in the Middle East and so on, she has been strategically quiet. Instead, she spent airtime talking about bread recipes rather than the issues she once championed.

Her choices seem calculated, and everything feels like a business transaction. Even her engagement, rolled out in Ralph Lauren, timed perfectly before her album release and the NFL season, reads like a campaign rather than a personal milestone. The NFL itself, heavily conservative, benefits from her association just as her brand benefits from the sport’s audience.

Hovering over it all is the political undertone: Trump’s positive remarks on her engagement, the careful neutrality being crafted between her, the White House, and her fanbase. It reads like the story of a woman who traded her once-powerful voice for commercial safety.

I don’t get the pushback for Taylor not speaking up. She heavily endorsed Kamala Harris -look what happened in there. She also came out against Marsha Blackburn and she won anyway.

If You seriously want to blame a pop star over what’s happening in this country then you are really uneducated and have no idea how the world works.

I don’t think anyone is blaming Taylor for the country’s mess. I think it is just telling about her “people pleasing/money making” mentality that she is settling down and getting married right when the people in charge are pushing women to do just that.
For me, I am more pushing back on the idea that Taylor was any kind of feminist/pro women’s rights. She is only capitalist and will play to the money.

OMG. Just shut up. Taylor Swift is an entertainer, not a political activist (thank God). She also has a private life and is perfectly entitled to "get married and settle down". People like you insist that everyone adopt your political views AND bray about them 24/7. No. You do you and the rest of us will live our lives exactly the way we see fit. To include Taylor Swift.

+ a million
Those insisting she speak out - about ANYTHING - are utter nitwits.

You knew it was coming after Selena G announced hers, like duh

Selena also engaged to an ugly moron. Interesting.

Remember when Julia Roberts was briefly married to that weird looking guy?

She’ll be married to Kelce for a couple of years and after she’ll go back to Matty Healy. They’re never going to leave each other alone. In their minds, they are Stevie and Lindsey. Besides, Tay wants to be Elizabeth Taylor so badly. She sang about it on Reputation and is back to that a decade later, on her new album.

MH already has a fiancee and will be married and have kids by then. Homewrecker isn't on brand for her.

+1. I’ve been listening to Hayley’s new album (it’s good!), and when I heard the song Parachute for the first time, I immediately pictured Matty Healy interrupting Taylor’s wedding. If someone could prevent the train wreck that would be a marriage to Travis, it would be him.
As a side note, Hayley and Taylor are friends, in fact Paramore opened for some of the Eras concerts.

When someone as generous and giving as Taylor gets this kind of hate, then something is seriously wrong with society. Yes, she’s rich but she takes care of people including donating to food banks in every city she performed in.

So do you think she stands up for feminism and women’s rights?

She said she wanted to and made some big statements about it in Ms Americana. I’m asking if she is following through on that.

I don’t think aspiring to be like Stevie and Lindsey is remotely in Taylor’s plans less you’re confirming that she and Matty will be distant forever.

No, just a person who told people who she supported for President.
