Well, Selena got engaged last year, but sure? Feel like if she was trying to steal her thunder, timing it 9 months later is not a great idea.

What stands out to me in this moment is Taylor’s silence. In the Miss Americana documentary, she was politically outspoken and willing to risk her brand by speaking about women’s rights and elections. But now, through ICE raids, the rollback of reproductive rights, an increase in gun violence, devastating conflicts in the Middle East and so on, she has been strategically quiet. Instead, she spent airtime talking about bread recipes rather than the issues she once championed.

Her choices seem calculated, and everything feels like a business transaction. Even her engagement, rolled out in Ralph Lauren, timed perfectly before her album release and the NFL season, reads like a campaign rather than a personal milestone. The NFL itself, heavily conservative, benefits from her association just as her brand benefits from the sport’s audience.

Hovering over it all is the political undertone: Trump’s positive remarks on her engagement, the careful neutrality being crafted between her, the White House, and her fanbase. It reads like the story of a woman who traded her once-powerful voice for commercial safety.

I don’t get the pushback for Taylor not speaking up. She heavily endorsed Kamala Harris -look what happened in there. She also came out against Marsha Blackburn and she won anyway.

If You seriously want to blame a pop star over what’s happening in this country then you are really uneducated and have no idea how the world works.

I would not say "heavily endorsed" - wasn't it one tweet? But yes she encourages her fans to register and vote and she has a big reach.

I agree there is no point to her speaking out now. What would that do, PP? Hopefully she will say something before the midterms.

Say what though? I mean, are we really going to blame Taylor Swift for the fall of democracy. Seriously this is insane. It’s very unlikely the Dems will get back the Senate and even the house is going to be a reach, especially with all the gerrymandering.

Hopefully dems will do well but whatever happens, it’s not up to Taylor.

She has spoken up before and elections still haven’t gone our way. I would love vin diagram of the people who have not done one damn thing, including even voting themselves, and are blaming Taylor Swift. I bet it would be staggering.

Y’all. No one is blaming Taylor for ‘Murica. Not one single person said that on this thread. That is a ridiculous idea.

But can we not agree that she isn’t speaking out for women’s rights and that she is NOT leading the way or on the “right side” of history anymore. Isn’t it clear that she doesn’t take a stand and isn’t a standard bearer for women’s rights?

Because during the Eras Tour that is what Swifties were saying. This proves them wrong.

I predict a baby in the next two to three years and then the split will probably happen about year four or five.

Did you listen to folklore, Midnights, TTPD? She got over Joe many years ago. It’s Matty Healy who she probably still loves and is rushing to beat him to the altar. Her relationship with Travis began shortly after Matty dumped her, likely in an effort to spite him and nurse her bruised ego.

She announced her official breakup from Joe on Matty Healy’s birthday in April 2023, her present to him. And compared her time with Joe to a slammer, a short lasting move-on drug, and a 6-year “love blackout” (in Glitch). Sang to Joe in Bejeweled she can tell the band, The 1975, that she doesn’t remember if she still has a boyfriend or not etc.

Matt was a rebound feel good one month experience, she's still stuck on Joe. I don't care what any of her songs say. Travis Kelce is her ovaries ticking away.

Looking at her boyfriend history, she is basically just a promiscuous serial monogamer. Until Joe. Maybe now she's trying to correct that flaw.

If you believe Taylor or Travis will be 100% faithful to each other for the rest of their lives, you just don’t know celebrity marriages.

You are very wrong. Or bad at analyzing texts and context clues. She very likely cheated on Joe many times over the years, or they had an agreement. Matty was not a month. She has many damning lyrics in her songs, eg admitting it was a decade-long affair in Chloe or Sam or Sophia or Marcus, and “seven years” in Happiness (released 2020), and then the lyrics of songs like Illicit Affairs, Maroons etc. tell the same story.
Taylor was the one who left Joe. Matty left her.

Look, I’m fairly politically active and I do get what you are saying. Maybe she could’ve explicitly done more but let’s not forget she did a pretty big sweeping endorsement that got a lot of attention.

But the Eras tour was about her fans coming together, listening to 20 years of her music, exchanging friendship bracelets, and being part of creating their own culture. I can see her not wanting to politicize it. I’m as liberal as they come and I grew up in the south south so I have a lot of MAGA relatives who actually still like Taylor Swift - it was kind of the one thing that we could talk about during the tour that didn’t get explosive. They obviously know she is very progressive as well, but they love her music and my aunts and parents who love their grand nieces and grand children enjoy that connection with my girls so they let that go.

Frankly, I would argue her becoming a billionaire and doing that tour in itself did a lot to empower women and young girls. It’s a pretty powerful message what she’s done. She’s an incredibly prolific songwriter and singer who can play instruments and totally gave her all to create a once in a lifetime tour. During the tour she was a mid 30s single childless woman and a proud cat lady (wasn’t a coincidence that the endorsement involved her cats), doing what she loves and making her own money and very much calling the shots.

I don’t disagree she could’ve explicitly done more, but Taylor is also someone who will never please everyone and will never do enough for some people.

She's not much more than the ultimate expression of a culture out of ideas.
