I don’t believe anyone spewing the crap that Biden was pushed aside for Hillary. He didn’t want to run because Beau had just died.

I do believe it. Biden always trusted Obama and he was the one who told Biden to take more time to mourn his son. I believe Biden would have won. I voted for Obama. Recently, I think he’s arrogant and he’s allegedly one of the first to advise Biden to step down. Their so called friendship was one sided. Always felt like he looked down on Biden.

Obama ain’t a kingmaker, he is a midwit puppet high on his own supply.

He’s not a kingmaker and his own wife is right about Barack being a narcissist or a bit cold and self involved . He looks down on Biden, he looked down on the Congressional Black Caucus too and he let Rahm Emanuel and Hillary Clinton drown. He could’ve stopped the FBI/Comey from starting a Hillary email probe. I don’t know why he even ran for President if he was afraid to use any of the exec privileges and powers of being President except for droning wedding parties and villages overseas. I like the guy and would vote for him again over the two options currently but he was quite flawed and he and Axelrod need to be shoved out as the party brain trust . I know everyone respects Obama but his political instincts weren’t that sharp for anyone but himself and he isn’t as smart as he thinks he is .

Such BS.

No one is willing to say that.
NeverTrump was making a point that you would not get their votes, so calculate accordingly.
Problem was their numbers were too small and Trump supporters were too high.
Full Biden supporters are small in number.
No one will be mad if Biden is replaced at the convention. In 2016, Roger Stone was threatening violence.
Will there be any numbers declaring NeverBiden that would force people to say we must have a new candidate.

Right now it is Biden down just five in polls, and all the people calling on him to drop out they know will vote for Biden.

That’s why this power struggle is happening - whomever gets the nomination is getting the anti-Trump “will crawl a mile over glass to vote against that Orange f#ck” votes. It is actually a pretty easy race at the end of the day because Trump has a “very unfavorable” rating pushing 50%. In other words, he’s already hit his ceiling for support and the inevitable Dem candidate has more avenues to build a coalition of even soft supporters (assuming people show up to vote….which I think they will).

Removing Biden is far too risky for some reasons - legally, reputation of the party, respect for the ballot, etc.

None whatsoever. And the clock is ticking.

Those are the most critical and important things to discuss in this thread yet that have absolutely nothing. There's less than 3 weeks to get all of that together and to make a compelling case at the DNC convention. But instead they run around making wild proclamations and assertions and demands with absolutely nothing solid behind them - nothing at all, just knee-jerk idiocy.

If the various people calling for Biden to step down put forward a name and a plan, you would object to that as improper and undemocratic. Rightfully so.

As it is, politicians, donors, voters, Americans, are asking Biden to step down because he is no longer a fit candidate. That's the beginning and end of it. The process of selecting a different candidate is a separate issue. Right now, we are just at the asking stage.

People keep asking and keep getting the same answer: No. Not stepping down voluntarily.

This. Cabinet can execute on the 25th Amendment if their concerns are legitimate. Otherwise, it’s just political posturing and donor pandering.

The 25th is not happening. And increasingly, it looks like Biden is going to stay in out of spite. There is no reasoning with an 81 year old man in terminal decline. Biden is not thinking about the greater good. He is all ego and pettiness now.

So, the longer this goes on, the more it looks like this will be settled at the convention, where technically, Biden has nearly all the officially pledged delegates. I'm sure lawyers are already scouring the small print of the DNC bylaws.

In any event, Trump and Republicans are pretty much guaranteed a sweeping victory due to the arrogance and ineptitude of Democrats.

What a mess

Biden is still pissed at Obama, Pelosi, Schumer, et al, for shoving him aside in favor of Hillary in 2016…which gave us Trump. You think he and Jill are just going to walk away? Nope. And why should they, it’s not like the Democrats have some sure-fire winning replacement waiting in the wings.

And there’s nothing anyone can do if he refuses.

If he happens to win, what are they going to do, refuse to work with him? Of course not. If he loses, he’ll retire and enjoy the rest of his life. I doubt he’s worried about his legacy being tarnished. He already feels disrespected.

I think he should just tell them to eff off or try to make him leave. Some voters might even respect him for it.

I agree with ⬆️ However, McConnell made it very clear, early on that he would prevent Obama from serving a 2nd term. And he meant it! He blocked Obama from filling a Supreme Court vacancy after conservative Justice Scalia died in 2016. This was his plan, and it set the stage that led to the reversal of the Roe v Wade decision that legalized abortion nationwide. See the calculated, long game republicans play? They are patient and strike when the iron is hot. Then Mitch, the fking stone face hypocrite confirmed he would allow Donald Trump's SCJ choice if an opening were to occur in the 2020 election cycle— and that kids is how we got duped — Amy Coney Barrett. Additionally, I think Obama was very cognizant of not presenting as an angry black man. He won a 2nd term and it definitely was a left hook for McConnell. But we’re stuck with a stacked court.

I'm not really even sure what it is that is "happening" - I had a message about Joe stepping down show up in my Facebook feed tonight, sponsored by "Pass The Torch, Joe" - whoever that is. Thing is, there were hundreds and hundreds of comments on it saying "stay the course, Joe" and "ridin with biden" and "I'm with Joe" and "Biden / Harris 2024" and I only saw ONE saying "Biden needs to step down." It really has me thinking there isn't actually all that much popular support and is instead being promoted and orchestrated by a handful of wealthy elites / big donors / lobbyists. Whoever it is hasn't done a good job of testing the waters or gathering data.

I agree with OP. I voted for him twice simply because he was palatable but he is as much a narcissist as all the others who have run for president. I couldn't stand Michelle.

He could have done a lot more for Hillary but he didn't because he didn't want to see his VP on the same level.

The AP poll said that 60% want Biden to step down. Those are real numbers, not trolls, since the trolls all want him to stay on and lose to Trump. This isn't an elite organized coup. It is everyone coming to the realization that Biden cannot be the candidate. He has declined. He cannot do it.

No it actually isn't an easy race at the end of the day. Get out of your bubble. The electorate is unhappy and restless.

It feels like a massive psyop. The “reports from an official” gets reported as gospel, which then creates a feeding frenzy. Lots of AI generated language content on this issue.

Yes McConnell blocked it. That's called the Joe Biden rule on nominations in an election year. See Biden's speech on it on youtube. I think it was in the mid 1990s.

You democrats play these games and then get all outraged when they boomerang back to you. You haven't learned that yet, have you?

You can get 60% of people to agree to anything in a poll if you word it correctly. And I guarantee that poll question did not raise any of the very real legal issues associated with trying to get Biden to step down. 90% of the population has no inkling what “replace Joe Biden” actually means.

Here’s one way to ask it:

“Would you support the Democrats replacing Joe Biden with a younger candidate, but at the risk that the new candidate might not appear on all state ballots or get mired in lawsuits?”

“Would you support replacing Joe Biden even if it meant there’s no clear replacement who can beat Donald Trump?”

The question is useless because it doesn’t get at the consequences of what “replace Joe Biden” entails (both positive and negative)

DP. Do you know what the Grassley amendment is in the ACA?

It's bad faith negotiation by Republicans.

The question is useless because it doesn’t get at the consequences of what “replace Joe Biden” entails (both positive and negative)

Hmm. Do you think you could get 60% of Republicans to say Yes to replacing Trump? I doubt it.
