2025 Boys Private School Results /Game Schedules/ Commentary

Far more students from the parishes and privates have chosen SJC over Gonzaga than GP. The problem for SJC is GZ is still a far better academic school. SJC is going to need about 15 more years of progress to erase the damage done from 1985 - 2015.

Admins won’t allow one another to play

This has been discussed before, Speaks and Urick are close friends. They grew up together and played their HS ball at Robinson High in Fairfax - this is above their pay grade.

I don't know if GP and SJC play each other in any sports these days (soccer, basketball, baseball).

The animosity between the school admins is genuine.

It’s not genuine. It doesn’t even exist (except maybe in your mind)

Which administrators at Prep are you talking about?

The Jesuit president, Fr. Van Dyke? The headmaster? You think these guys care about who is on the lacrosse schedule or not? It’s borderline ridiculous to claim that.

Is it the AD Paro that harbors this animosity you claim exists? He barely cares about lacrosse.

Thats the entire Administration along with the lacrosse coach.

No one at Prep thinks about St Johns as any kind of traditional rival. No coach, no administrator and no alumni. They worry about the IAC and maybe their brother school in DC.

St Johns doesn’t compete for the same students and rarely have the two schools played sports against one another.

Keep telling yourself that they don’t compete for the same students. They absolutely do. Boys who traditionally would have gone to Gonzaga or GP are now choosing SJC. It’s the same for girls. Girls who previously would have only gone to Visi or SR, are now choosing SJC and Holy Child. It’s a good thing for the Catholic kids to have even more great options. It is undoubtedly a hard pill to swallow though for some.

From a GP alum who likely has zero clue about today’s local landscape.

Outside of the junior middie, I can't think of any other families who made the choice of SJC over GP. All the other kids were choosing between GZ and SJC. Since King and his staff are non-existent with regard to school involvement and Speaks is out there talking to kids and families, it made the difference in their choice.

you are kidding yourself if you think there is only one lax player currently at Military road who snubbed Prep and opted for SJC for high school.

and when you add in additional sports, the lists jumps to.

you are living in the past if you don't think SJC is a viable alternative to GP these days, because it is.

If you are so happy at SJC and so convinced of its wonderfulness, then why the whining about not being on the GP Lax schedule?

SJC is better than it was. But it's still SJC.

who said anything about whining

The only people on here who are whining are the disgruntled GP alums living in the past.

Probably should just be happy if they can sneak by a normally .500 DeMatha again.

I know none of the 27’s applied to GP but they did to GZ.

Gonzaga academics don't come close to what GP offers.

Niche and Lotus Prep disagree with you. As do the schools' respective students that they polled. Or we could just go with your opinion.
