This makes no sense and has nothing to do with the decrease in numbers playing rec lacrosse. But if you want to talk about cost - how about the absurd amount of $$ clubs fleece from families under the guise of getting Billy (or maybe Trey or Chad) a college scholarship that doesn’t really exist. |
Plus 100% and the Madlax ponzi scheme of creating new clubs (Virginia, Maryland, Capital, DC Dogs, etc) has accelerated the demise of local rec programs |
Go talk to Draley at Silver Spring rec lax and get back to me about how it doesn't make sense. |
The WCAC all conference teams were pretty much expected. When do All DMV come out |
Club lax has hurt the sport in the same way AAU basketball and travel soccer has hurt those sports. It siphons off the most committed players and parents. But at least with NVYLL, this year was a banner year with the most players and teams since Covid. LAX parents have a myopic view of the sport they don’t see that the same forces changing lacrosse are even greater in other sports. Ultimately there’s nothing to be done about it parents are free to do what they think is the best for their children and they have no obligation to do what’s best for the sport. |
Why should rec survive if they don't provide a decent service? Protecting dad coaching careers isn't a priority of the club teams, just money. |
Where are they posted? |
Former coach here from a private school and while it's fun to make predictions/projections on incoming 9th graders (2028's), it's tough to say which 8th-grade superstar will live up to the hype. It's obvious that some 8th graders are sometimes a full 12 months or even 18 months other than their peers and dominate with their physical advantage in the MS years and even as freshmen in the club circuit. HS coaching and player development (in-house) are often overlooked as parents/boosters love to point to the number of D1 commits to indicate how strong their team will be in the Spring. I've said this before, half of these kids who commit to D1 programs don't come close to panning out in the college ranks and hardly see the field. Unfortunately with the " transfer portal" here to stay, I think it will make it even harder for "little Johnny" to hit the field in the college ranks. Based on what teams have projected to return next spring and assuming coaching staffs remain the same, I'll go with the following pre-season rankings. 1. SJC 2. Landon 3. GZ 4. Bullis 5. GP |
Its a bit too early to predict how teams will fair next spring.
Some programs will hit the transfer portal hard, some coaches will look to try and poach players from other programs, and schools like G-Prep and Episcopal who have boarding facilities, will try their best to fill their dorms for blue-chip recruits this summer. I think your top 5 list is accurate, maybe switch Bullis with Gonzaga or Landon. Prep will fall off big time next Spring unless they bring in some kids this summer or fill the dorms. The Lil Hoyas JV was terrible this Spring so don't see much younger talent coming up. Cadets will likely be the top dog next spring. |
1. SJC 2. Bullis 3. Landon 4. GZ 5. GP 6. PVI 7. GC 8. DM 9. EHS 10.SA/SSSAS |
DeMatha needs to hire a coach first.
Episcopal will be better next spring, they bring back most of their squad. I'm not buying the GC hype. The Falcons beat nobody this year except DeMatha back in March. |
After last week's NCAA "settlement," who know what college lax and college sports will look like in 4-5 years. I can tell you if schools are cutting checks specifically to players, do you think those checks are going to go to a sport that generates little to no revenue or to sports like football and basketball. In the end, it is very likely that days of non-revenue sports in college are likely over or drastically cut back as money is moved to pay football and basketball players. |
Look for a re-shuffling of conferences to have football and basketball in the traditionally labeled Big 10, SEC and so on. The low revenue sports like lacrosse will be re-named and re-aligned geographically so travel can take place on a bus and not a plane. I'm not sure how Maryland justifies 35 players getting on an airplane to play at Michigan. |
First of all, D1 programs like Maryland and several others bring a lot more than 35 with them on flights. While I would agree that there could be a huge shakeup to college sports, lacrosse is far from the only sport impacted. This will change for all sports including football and basketball at all schools not in a power conference. This needs to happen. However one big issue is still title IX. This is going to take another season or two to sort out. One advantage lacrosse has is that many players do not rely on scholarships to justify going to X school. With some local re-alignment of costs you could even see added mens teams that get elevated from MCLA. Who knows what the future would bring. |
Only 45 total players and staff can be on the bench. 35 players is the approximate number plus coaches plus staff. There s no adding of mcla without title ix going away. The sport is essentially capped. Look for schools to start charging the same amount as football and basketball to even keep them around. |
