College and University Discussion
Maybe blue states should adequately fund higher education. It's a joke when southern universities are able to offer comparable or better educations for cheaper than the states that purportedly care about education more. New England and most of the mid Atlantic just don't bother anymore. Even states with good flagships like Maryland and Virginia charge multiples of what southern states charge |
Definitely. |
| As someone who attended a southern university, the friendly/nice can oftentimes be VERY fake. I don't really buy that people are "friendlier" in the south. |
UMD tuition for in-state: $11233. Alabama tuition for in-state: $11900. Georgia: $11180 I suppose .94 and 1.005 are multiples technically. |
That's one way to look at it. Alabama is basically free with good grades. UGA has a 27k cost of attendance, UMD is 29k, but Georgia is far more generous with merit aid. Florida is 21k. UVA is 31k. |
This is true X a million. |
| the merit aid comes from? |
| I would love to know how progressive, liberal DMV parents can stomach the Greek life at these southern schools. Or are the kids not going that far? |
They don’t rush |
the SEC media deal |
That's a lot of regions. At work, we use the team "Minnesota nice" to refer to the incredibly over the top but shallow friendliness in our Minneapolis office |
so, not really the states. |
| The states decide where the money goes as they have say so over the budget. |
In contrast to those super kind University of Michigan students in the north who torment uber drivers with profane racism and hate speech. "You’re an Uber driver. Go f***ing drive, you little f***," a student was filmed saying. "Minimum wage fa**ot. Go f*** yourself." https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/morning-mix/wp/2016/03/29/heres-why-a-michigan-student-says-he-berated-an-uber-driver-with-profanities/ |
Look, my point wasn’t that they are any worse, just that the south isn’t better |
