Every one of the multiple Auburn graduates I know loved their time at Auburn *and* learned that anecdote ≠ data

But not the meaning of irony.

MD, DC, and VA are in the South.

DMV area is not South.
One thing though is they send their kids to actually South, UVA VT W&M

Yes it is. Dmv is very different from tri state or New England.

The south starts in York, Pa / Hagerstown md / Frederick md

I’ve lived in both the DMV and tri state areas and they are not different. I don’t get this comment at all. They are the same mid Atlantic vibe.

Umm…no, the two areas are very different. I was brought up in the tri state area and now live in the DMV.

These are a few of the major differences:

1. DMV is reliably, overwhelmingly Democratic. Tri-state has more Republican pockets than here.
2. DMV is much better educated and is snobbish about the education.
3. Tri-state status depends much more on $$$$ with the exception of a few over the top areas in the DMV (Potomac, Great Falls, Parts of DC).
4. Here, it’s still more a game of what you know and who you know than how much you make, although clearly this area has gotten far more materialistic in the last 20 years as New Yorkers and others move here.

Again, I’ve lived a long time in both areas. The only point I might agree with you here is #1. Definitely don’t agree with #2. Pockets of DMV are snobbish about education but come on, so are pockets of NYC, and I think the tri state public education system is much, much better.

Are you the poster who keeps bringing up abortion laws and Covid restrictions?? And you have the gall to call someone else a troll? Get a clue.
NP

No. Sorry to disappoint you.

It’s about merit aid. Get a clue.

There’s just more slots available. As admissions gets harder and more and more people apply, people have to expand their options even if they are full pay.

Anti-wokism is another part of it. A lot of kids want to have a college experience where they can have open conversations and discussions, and not have to constantly be aware of something innocent resulting in censorship or cancellation. Did y'all know you can no longer say "grandfathered in"? It's racist. https://medium.com/@nriley/words-matter-why-we-should-put-an-end-to-grandfathering-8b19efe08b6a

Thanks so much for enjoying your normal college experience.

Lol, can’t make a silk <parse> from a sow’s ear

OVERALL to date, not PER CAPITA

State Number of deaths
California 97,817
Texas 91,510
Florida 83,201
New York 74,252
Pennsylvania 48,527
Georgia 41,172
Ohio 40,644
Illinois 40,394
Michigan 40,327
New Jersey 35,213
Arizona 31,822
Tennessee 28,406
North Carolina 27,533

Totals are meaningless. The per Capita number will indicate the deaths relative to the population.

And again, per capita is meaningless when for example, being elderly is the number one risk factor for covid survivability. You have to adjust for age among other things, to try to compare state by state.

You will never take this disease seriously until it kills someone relatively young and healthy in your family. I know many likebyou. Go forth and spread it and teach your kids to do the same. Fantastic.

We are full pay, liberal democrats. We have a child at a private southern university and our current senior is applying to (mostly) southern schools. For my kids, it isn’t about the merit aid since we can afford for them to go anywhere. They love how friendly everyone is at the southern schools. They love the social life, weather and sports games. School is FUN and the education has been great for my older child. My DC says it feels like a breath of fresh air after attending private school in DC.

I am the PP that wrote this. I forgot to add that my kids would have 100% attended UVA if accepted, but they were rejected. We are instate for Virginia.

This seems to be happening a lot. Kids who don’t get into UVA but have the stats and personality for a competitive school leave VA. Either for merit or because they can get into a better ranked or better fit university OOS.

VT isn't for everyone and there is a larger gap between UVA/W&M and JMU/VCU than some people will acknowledge.

UVA appeals in the same way a lot of other southern schools do. It has big sports, Greek life, a beautiful, classic looking campus. My kids loved UVA and found several southern schools had a similar vibe - University of Georgia, University of South Carolina and Auburn off the top of my head.

Hotter kids? How do you figure? The South has higher obesity rates.

Anyone sending a college student to any red state in the US is a compete horrible parent.

FACT.

Clearly not paying attention to Republican crap.

Abstenence works so well plus send your kids to a red state where 38% more people died of covid. Great way to own the "libs" kill off your own.
