My 17 year old son is unhappy because we didn't have him circumcised as an infant and thinks his genitalia is ugly." Anyone else deal with this?
|
Yes. If all their friends are cut (or more importantly, if their girlfriend is squicked out). DH told his teenaged son "we can go and get it done. The scalpels are sharp and waiting for you". he didn't do anything. He's in his late 20s now and judging by the tiny bit I know about his dating life he's not having any problems.
Like any body thing that might be different (like a big birthmark) kids are going to feel weird about it. No one wants to be different. I'd explain to him that it used to be standard operating procedure in the US only but it's going out of favor. (Show him statistics). So their are plenty of other guys out there. Also may want to mention that when erect it's very difficult if not impossible to tell the difference between circumcised and not. |
Thanks; I've gone over all the stats and why we made that decision. I also told him that any girl who won't have sex with him because of that isn't worth his time, but of course at 17, his main mission in life since he's committed to a college is losing his virginity. I think it will also help when he goes away to college where he may not be one of the only young men not cut. |
| When he's 18 he can chop it off. |

No, mine thank me all the time for not circumsizing. The are appalled at the friends who are circumsized.
We live in Canada and over half of kids are not circ. |
|
| Nope. Sixteen year old son is perfectly fine being uncircumcised. |
Mine was too at 16. |
| It was a mistake to stop circumcision. Recent medical research states the pros out weighs the cons. Luckily you can always circ. |
| Anecdotally, I have two close friends who were circumcised in their early twenties. |
Really you're kids thank you? Weirdos. You should also teach your kids not to body shame. |
Yeah, but...Canada.
|
No, civilized countries like Canada and in Northern Europe don't circumcise. They have higher life expectancy, lower rates of STDs, and better sex lives than the US. |

I"m in my early 40s and I'm not circumcised, which was a lot more rare when I was in high school. A few friends made fun of me, but if I _was_ circumcised, they'd just find something else to tease me about.
Never had a woman complain. Few women can even tell since you "look" circumcised when erect, and by the time we're naked, I'm certainly in that position. |
| Yes. |
