No. They have sick leave and national health insurance. We do not.

Right.

Right.

But by the same token why do we follow and watch China?

Uh... that’s where it started?

Both Germany and France have indicated they cannot trace the spread from person to person:
- Feb. 26: “We are at the beginning of a coronavirus epidemic in Germany,” said German Health Minister Jens Spahn, adding that infection chains can no longer be tracked in Germany

"A new stage of the epidemic has been reached. We’re now moved to stage 2: which means the virus circulates in our territory and we have to slow down its spread." said French Health Minister Olivier Véran.

Aren't you making yourself really anxious? Beyond stocking up on food and meds, washing your hands, avoiding socializing if sick -- what else can you do?

Follow this story avidly, have done no prepping or stocking up, and have never used hand sanitizer and don't plan on doing so. Have never had health anxiety.

It really is no different from following primary elections or all the games of March madness, but I find it much more interesting because the virus is global and its path unpredictable.

Who would have thought a cruise ship, a Shi'ite pilgrimage, and a Korean cult site could be such vectors of contagion? Which countries show themselves as virus deniers or bad actors (looking at you Indonesia and Iran). Which countries are rising to the occasion (we knew Singapore would be exemplary but Italy has exceeded expectations). What country gets hit next--is it from China, Italy, or Iran, or, my bet for a wave over South America, Spain?

A story was posted this morning about three health workers testing positive. 50 of their colleagues at a Paris hospital are in home quarantine.

At some point I may decide to self quarantine myself and my kids.

Possible Outbreak in a health facility in Washington state. CNN

Washington state health officials are investigating a possible outbreak of coronavirus at a long-term nursing facility in which two people tested positive for the disease.

More than 50 residents and staff from the Life Care Center in Kirkland are experiencing symptoms, and will be tested for coronavirus, said Dr. Jeffrey Duchin, health officer for Seattle and King County.
The news comes the same day the first US death from coronavirus was reported in Washington state, health officials said Saturday. The man in his 50s, who had underlying health conditions, was not a resident at the care facility.
The two positive tests associated with the nursing facility include a 40-year-old female health care worker who has no known travel outside the US and is in satisfactory condition at a local hospital, officials said. The second one, a woman in her 70s, is hospitalized in serious condition.
"In addition, we're aware of a number of individuals associated with the long-term care facility who are reportedly ill with respiratory symptoms or pneumonia, and we're in the process of investigating this situation as an outbreak," Duchin said. "We're in the beginning stages of our investigation and new details."
