This had nothing to do with fields. The DA is 4 teams. That's it! This had to do with the 4 aforementioned clubs. You know why? Because they care about themselves and not your kid. Stop being a fool and protecting these clubs. They don't care about your kid. If you think I'm wrong you haven't been around travel soccer long enough.

There are plenty of reasons not to go DA or make a deal with the Spirit besides "they don't care about your kid."

These clubs also have hundreds of kids who are not DA.

I'm not saying the decision to spurn the Spirit was right or wrong. I'm saying it's much more complicated than what you're saying here.

I think the bigger point is, not what a family or player decides it is the club role. In many of the cases these clubs want their cake (the cash cow of a rec program and 4-6 travel teams per age group) and to eat it too, ie, having access to opportunities like DA without paying the price for them.

They want to lay claim to be DA without the risks. To these clubs DA is nothing more than a banner on their website for marketing purposes.

You are exactly 100 percent correct!

Clubs will always look out for their best interest and not your kids. That's why I don't understand this blind loyalty.

To FCV having DA or ECNL IS their bread and butter. They are not going to cede control of major decisions to Loudoun. They will make little concessions, like throw a bone to a a couple Loudoun players to make it look like a partnership and have some Loudoun coaches assist at practices but beyond that it is all FCV's baby no matter what any Loudoun talking head will tell you. And frankly, it is likely that Loudoun is just as happy with that, because they still get to talk a big game to their customers.

In fact just look at how Loudoun Soccer pimps the girls DA on their website. http://www.loudounsoccer.com/da/girlsda/ (

To look at this page one would be hard pressed to know who owns the actual rights to DA but considering the awesomeness of Loudoun's Website compared to FCV it wouldn't be hard to imagine the Loudoun is an actual Girls DA club.

That alone will retain parents that don't really look into things and Loudoun wants to keep it that way.

Another big strike against Girls DA from a club just a little bit better then FCV . . .

It matters where the talent goes but nobody ever said ECNL wouldn't last.

The irony is that one of Stings reasons for leaving DA is the combined age groups. It is one of the worst kept secrets that the Girls DA will have individual age groups across the board.

Yet FCV gave up ECNL and didn't have the foresight the Sting did. . . . lol!

Good luck FCV ... enjoy.

here is summary:

1. "Our main goal is college soccer
2. We need more flexibility than GDA gives, especially with regard to scheduling and practice time
3. We need more balance than GDA allows with regard to academics, social lives, and other activities
4. The dual age system makes things hard for players shuttled into and out of the teams
5. The substitution rules means that many players won't get valuable minutes
6. It is more expensive, and more demanding travel-wise, which is bad for academics, and academics matters a lot for college-bound players."

This makes me wonder if it was either ECNL or DA. I can see for this year with the combined age groups this would displace alot of girls without having both options. I think FCV faced tbis same choice, but ultimately it was ECNL that put them out.

DA must change dual age groups and the substitution rule. Absolutely terrible.

Seriously....30 man roster...18 can dress...14 will play.

They were a dual club and are making it very clear about why they chose the way they did; huge banner at top: http://www.stingsoccer.com

here is summary:

1. "Our main goal is college soccer

Ummm, so what

2. We need more flexibility than GDA gives, especially with regard to scheduling and practice time

That extra day for film is a real bitch to schedule.

3. We need more balance than GDA allows with regard to academics, social lives, and other activities

All of a sudden ECNL coaches embrace HS soccer lol

4. The dual age system makes things hard for players shuttled into and out of the teams

Age groups will be broken out within a year.

5. The substitution rules means that many players won't get valuable minutes

Except for the players playing the whole or most of the game. Admittedly it is difficult to justify charging the parents of the 25th kid on the roster when you can't sub them in for 4 minutes each half.

6. It is more expensive, and more demanding travel-wise, which is bad for academics, and academics matters a lot for college-bound players.

Based on the the conference alignments for both leagues this would be actual be true for league play but add in all the crazy showcases and far away ECNL
only events and the price will balloon right back up.
