It means that anyone in X grade can play on Y team. As an example any Junior can play on a Junior team. This sounds fair on the surface but what happens in GY environments is parents hold their kids back typically in 8th grade one or two years so they can be the oldest and biggest on the team.

SY is bound by 8/1-7/31 you cant be any older however you can be younger.

The GY guy just wants to play his kid that he held back in school on club soccer teams so they can be the biggest and oldest.

Ironically club soccer GA/ECNL already groups u18/u19 (juniors and seniors) together so they already play GY.

So what happens if an August player is a junior and playing in a team of sophomores? They will switch teams just for the showcase to go okay with juniors?

What you're describing is called dual rostering. This is how clubs will roster players whos parents want them to play down but they kid wants to play on a team thats their grade. A season of slowly playing more and more the the correct grade in school team and parents will be ok rostering "up" on the correct grade in school team.

No matter what parents say kids dont want to be the only kid a grade older on a team with kids a grade younger.
With showcases going graduation year it isn't dual rostering. It's just putting together teams for a tournament, a showcase.

As the college coaches note above, no need to play up or any any special age group for the regular season. Just reach out to the right colleges to get on their radar and become the best player you can and get the good HS grades. Most teams will have 3-4 kids off grades compared to the rest of the team and once you become teammates school grades aren't necessary known or discussed between the kids.

Dishonest and making things to.

u18/u19 grouping is already GY.

if you are on here for u18/u19 your time is over. Why even be in the convo? If your kid hasnt been picked up by now its time to just go to college, get a good education and welcome to the real world

Because of late developers. Because our pay-to-play system misses a lot of talent who can't afford it. ... I could go on.

Like what was said....you ARE TOO LATE to be in the CONVO.

It's never too late.

If your kid is not on path by U16-U17 then chances are your kid just doesn't have what it takes. It's no knock to your kid, it's reality. If your kid is at that level, they would have been seen. Now if you chased a badge and your kid just rode the bench all these years or you chose a team who doesn't promote or help your kid, then it's most likely your fault.

That mentality won't get you anywhere.

Just telling the reality of all this. You have to be elite, if you are elite the scouts have watched or are already watching. U18-U19 shooting for hail mary's

It's amazing that so many are delusional in thinking every kid has a shot at the few spaces on the top of the mountain

Is it ignorance about sports or life?

I never said every kid. You’re just wrong to write off blue chip players who preserve and keep developing.

"blue chip" "top level" or whatever you want to call them are the players teams and clubs build themselves around. Everyone else can come and go it doesn't matter because they all want to be the next blue chip player. This is why parents chase plastic trophies. 99% of the time it doesnt happen.

What this means is all you need to do is watch how clubs interact with top players and teams. Over time this will become how they interact with lower level players and teams. This is because they look at lower level players as a potential player/talent pool.

Basically if clubs dont allow Aug birthdays to play down on their top teams. (they wont) This action will trickle down to lower level and age groups over time.

How can clubs go against the league age month/year cutoff to allow a January player today to play down, or allow an August player next season to play down?

All within the rules. You just dont like the Aug player play with their grade interpretation. You thought SY would be your playing down utopia. It will not be.

Not logical. Kids aren't allowed to play down in another age group.

And clubs build themselves around the number of players at the lower ages (the revenue) and wins at the upper ages.

Playing down not allowed. Kids play on age, best of the best play up.

This is what a solid club with top leagues should do, make it super clear!

Eventually if play grade down guy actually has an Aug birthday kid it will be interesting to see how they'll use rae as an excuse when college coaches ignore their kid when recruiting.

What part of there is no grade level in club soccer is difficult to understand?
It's 12 months calendar year

Too stupid. Being the oldest in an age group has highest chance of going the further with soccer and youngest the least. Youngest quit soonest. Most clubs try to limit or block playing upnl an age group and don't care or tack school grade of players. College coaches told teams and Facebook and now parents that it doesn't matter your age group for youth soccer. Man, you lost.

The grade down guy is a littles parent that thinks he knows everything. Once players get to HS (and should be before) groupings are all done by grade because this is what college coaches are looking for.
