CNN reports that three more Christ Church members have tested positive according to a letter sent to parishioners.
However, the DC count remains at 10. Or were these parishioners all from VA or MD? |
They’re testing. 26 negatives and 5 tests pending. |
If anyone has a copy of the letter can you please share? |
Knowing that they tested positive because they were tested and the parishioners are only tested if/when they exhibit symptoms. |
DP. So of those those hundreds of parishioners who were told a week after their exposure that they should self-quarantine, many were likely infected but we won't know until they a truly symptomatic and get tested. In the week they didn't know to self-quarantine, they interacted with hundreds more people, who may not know they interacted with a person who may have been infected. When those folks develop symptoms, they post on DCUM "I have the sniffles, what should I do?" and get shouted down both "shut up, it's a cold" and "how dare you go out in public?" but they don't get tested. Voila! As I posted elsewhere, if this had been South Korea, the whole church would have been tested, multiple times, starting a week ago. Hundreds more infections could have been avoided there. |
Not surprised it’s spreading there. My friend who’s a member said there was a potluck meal the rector, children and many parishioners attended during the time in question. Also many people go to this church from Virginia and Maryland (why, I don’t know) but their positives could be included in the other states’ numbers |
I work in healthcare. Best I know, the hospitals and drs offices just recently were able to start sending tests out to private labs a few days ago and have started doing that quite a lot. Much easier as they can just order the test rather than ask the city for permission, less red tape and city takes a few days anyways. However, the test results are going to take a few days - and because tests only started going to these labs, the results aren't coming back yet. Look for an increase in cases next week depending on how quickly labs can churn out results after a massive increase in testing. This is probably not just DC, but everywhere. I think some places, but not all, are starting to get their own faster tests, but it takes time to get up in running. |
Yep. From DC Coronavirus site: March 13, 2020 DC Public Health Laboratory (PHL) Coronavirus Testing Metrics as of 7 pm Number of people tested overall: 69 Number of PHL positives: 8* Number of commercial lab positives: 2 Number of PHL negatives: 49 Number of PHL tests in progress: 10 *This number includes: presumptive positives (6); and CDC confirmed positives (2) What they don't report, or probably even know, is the number of commercial lab tests in progress. Seeing tons sent in the past few days, but they take several days to give the result. |
There were other events in the city that week (March 1-7) that parishioners attended that involved nonparishioners too. We are at least a week away yet from those folks getting symptoms, wondering about them for a few days and then seeking medical attention. |
Would West Virginians have higher immune systems due to the recent and ongoing coal mining in the air there? |
If anything I would think their lungs are more compromised. |
I think the pp. have been sarcastic. |
Whatever. they don't have residents coming back form fancy Nile cruises or Italian ski vacations.. Problem solved. |
Are there still only 10 positive in DC? |
The private labs are reporting positives and negatives but not pendings. |
