Only one state has not reported a coronavirus case, West Virginia. |
It’s really disturbing to watch the tallies increase daily in most states, while DC hasn’t reported a single new case in days. What the hell are they doing? |
Not testing! I have it and they refused to test me because I’m low risk. |
Not testing. Not in DC, barely at all anywhere else in the country, when you look at testing performed per capita compared to other countries. And yet, the US reported over 500 cases yesterday. We are in, deep. And then there's all the misinformation/underplaying of likely big-deal realities in the name of preventing panic: - reality of pre- and a-symptomatic transmission, - usefulness of masks, - time it remains on surfaces (technical term is "on fomites"), - impact on children (see here for the 10 y/o who looked totally asymptomatic but not only was he positive, he also had radiological evidence of impact on his lungs. We don't know the long-term consequences) (You can draw plenty of arrows between those four items) Not testing: ![]() |
We're all f'd. Start drinking that wine you've been storing in your cellars. |
Stats from Washington State:
CTRY_ISO_N_ United States of America ADM1_ISO_N Washington Confirmed 568 Recovered 0 Death 37 37 deaths. How many were attributed to nursing home outbreak? The first patient with the virus came from Wuhan to Washington State in late January. |
Not sure if the recovered number has been updated btw, as I couldn't get that data from the WA State health dept. |
Also, don't interpret "recovered" as totally fine. We know that many people who had serious respiratory illnesses end up with long term lung issues, especially children. |
Last I heard they had zero test kits. |
To clarify: that's over 500 new cases in one day, not total. |
Most. I think almost all of the 37 outside maybe 2-3 are from the nursing home and one other facility. The nursing home wasn't a retirement community or senior complex but a place for elderly and sick with chronic issues. Outside the nursing home deaths the death levels are extremely low in the US. Even NYC hasn't seen deaths yet despite being several weeks now. |
Two deaths in FL, 4(?) in CA, others in other states. The majority are in several nursing homes in Washington but there are other deaths all around the country. |
Maybe that means that it's been circulating for weeks but is just a bad cold. I think it means that it's just beginning to spread in more and more areas. |
Yes, but the numbers are still very low. Which is encouraging. The virus has the capacity to kill certain people very quickly but we're not seeing a lot of that. Yet. |
are you familiar with the concept of exponential growth? |
