Fire in upper NW?

Okay, folks, this thread is pretty long already without going off on a landscaping tangent. Can we drop the lawn and walls discussion? That is getting pretty close to blaming the victims and, at this point, we have no idea if such would have made any difference whatsoever.

Not to mention that it's idiotic. The crime in these parts of DC (NwNw) is very low. Any comparison to Bogota reveals the speaker understands very, very little about DC (and, likely, Bogota in the 90s).

The perps were invited into the house.

Easier to just grab the Van Gogh, Strad, etc., and run......no need for a few k from an ATM when millions where literally on the walls. It doesn't add up. Either random home invasion where they didn't know the score they could have walked away with, psycho killers, or something violently personal. Nothing else makes any sense.

It is extremely difficult to sell valuable famous artwork without getting caught! One doesn't just walk into a pawn shop or Christie's to sell it. More often, the work itself is held ransom, but even then, the chances of getting caught are very high.

Because criminals clearly know not to brazenly break into houses that are located in upper NW.

Did someone say upthread that there was a Christmas tour of the house where these master works were on display? If so, what is the basis of your knowledge of that?

That PP said s/he attended that. I think it was something involving the St. Albans community.

I can't imagine this residence didn't have cameras. I wonder if the police were able to retrieve anything. They are likely also asking neighbors for camera footage as well. These criminals did not just randomly show up even if the crime was random. They surely went to the neighborhood to look at exits and traffic in the days before the crime was committed. I would not be surprised if they showed up on surveillance footage.

I would think the likelihood of cameras would be hig. That's why I think it was strangers with little education who play the odds game that they will or won't get caught. I still am not convinced that the perps knew the victims. The crime was so brazen that it has me thinking that way.

The St Albans house tour at Christmas is an annual event. Anyone can attend: http://www.stalbansschool.org/CHT

I pray we get news soon of someone in custody. I also have to think there were cameras, either inside or outside or both.
