| SLHS already sucks. Losing Fox Mill will make it suck even more. |
There will be plenty of electives. And, plenty of teachers. Unlikely any will be destaffed when you consider those who apply to transfer or retire. And, just because there are electives, does not mean your child will get into the class. My DD had to make choices because she wanted two electives that were only taught once and they were at the same time. This happens. Two_years in a row, she had to make choices--at Chantilly--which, FYI--is a very large school. |
It’s not Fox Mill’s job to make SLHS suck less. SLHS will suck less if they lose IB and get AP. Less immigration and more MC kids from new development will also help. |
At this point who cares if you can walk to one school and get sent to another? Look at the whole county. There's people who could walk to Woodson going to Fairfax, people who could walk to Oakton going to Madison, and people who could walk to Oakton going to Fairfax. The Woodson, Madison, and Fairfax boundaries force Oakton's boundary to look ridiculous. |
Those who could walk to Woodson and going to Fairfax live in Fairfax City. It is a requirement that they go to Fairfax. But, have we taken walkers out of Woodson to send them to Fairfax? I don't think so. Have we taken walkers out of Oakton to send them to Madison? I don't think so. Big difference. |
Wait, has someone proposed to move Sunrise Valley out of South Lakes? |
So clueless. Your DD was forced to make choices between two electives offered at Chantilly that may not be offered at all at Westfield, especially if they only leave it with 2000 kids. The demographics at Westfield don’t support as many electives to begin with. |
mostly I'm afraid of people making assumptions and spreading lies to pit one group against another. The middle school splits are odd, I do think some can be improved, though given locations & numbers not completely resolved. It would seem make sense that if Lees Corner or some Navy families want to stay at Chantilly HS, they might expect to be aligned to Rocky Run. If Crossfield/Navy/Waples families are staying at Oakton, they should expect to be aligned to Franklin. Oakhill families seem to agree that it makes the most sense to align them to Carson (rather than current split to Franklin and Carson) if they are going to be proceeding to Skyview. Based on the student population and utilization numbers there is no reason to move Navy students who would progress to Oakton to Rocky Run. This is counter to all the FCPS stated priorities for boundaries AND is NOT something that anyone else has advocated for. |

Floris, Oak Hill, Fox Mill, and Crossfield make a really nice and clean boundary for Skyview.
Coates and McNair stay at Westfield so there's no need to backfill. |
Well said. I don't get the hate toward Crossfield. |
My neighborhood walks to Chantilly and I would be quite upset if the kids in my neighborhood are sent on a bus elsewhere (meaning more routes, busses, drivers are needed), while people already on a bus (meaning they live further away from Chantilly) get to stay there. |
That would create an island. |
Clean except for having to bus the Coates and McNair kids thru the entire thing, right past their MS (Carson) and Skyview, to travel to WF?!? Do you work on retainer for WXYZ? |
That or they asked Chat GPT. |
Ok, leave out Floris and add Navy. Crossfield, Navy, Fox Mill, Oak Hill. Rename it Oak Hill HS Oakton and Chantilly get relief. |
