The writing is on the wall for the iAC and have been brought up before. Football is a dying sport in the DC area in general and SSSAS is no longer a football member. Every school is having trouble fielding teams in Varsity, JV and barely freshman due to single sport concentration and the very large phenomena of floaters who actually discourage participation by stealing practice and play time on 2 different teams. Bullis and GP want to recruit like crazy for every sport. Landon and St. Albans are trying to balance sports and school. Episcopal and SSSAS can't get out of their own way and have driven many away with their policies. |

only a matter of time before Prep is kicked out of the IAC for all sports due to their dominance. |
Real question is will prep play. |
Let’s pump the breaks here. They got dominated by Bullis and Landon a couple months ago. Pump the breaks. Let the game be played. |
Other than football, what sports in the IAC does Prep dominate?
|
They've had success in swimming and baseball. |
Prep dominates in football, baseball, swimming and lacrosse. |
They were slightly the best team in 2023. They a far from being the dominate lax power in the DMV |
Simply not true about the popularity of football waning in the DMV. Football numbers are up at almost every school. The WCAC and IAC are putting plenty of players in D1 programs. Not sure what is happening with some MAC schools, but Maret recruits heavily for football. SSSAS should join the MAC. As a previous poster noted, football is the one sport that most alums rally around and support at almost every school. Homecomings, reunions, and rivalry games are packed with fans. Of course the WCAC and IAC feature some of the best lacrosse players in the country, but football is still king. |
The post you are responding to is filled with utter nonsense. Some of it is wishful thinking and the rest ideologically driven. Although its possible in their social circle, football is no longer PC. |
You would think that "Dominance" would have a longer time span than a single year. It's something that would be established over a number of years.
This "stunning" hire by Prep for lacrosse may be a one-off or it might be a sea change in how the school supports teams. I'd be willing to bet this opportunity just fell into their lap. It's got a lot of upsides for the school if it works out and got them away from what appeared to be a deteriorating situation. |
Whatever you're rambling on about is just further evidence that you don't understand what the word guarantee means. You've got some predictions for the distant (or not immediate?) future on how the world will operate once more cards are dealt. Great. |
"ideologically driven" ? Lax dad in khakis coming out strong for their game that is played in ten states ! So the lax games at Prep get more fans than the football games ? Have you been to the Prep stadium for a Friday night football game ? How about Bullis ? How about Good Counsel, Dematha, St John's, Gonzaga, PVI ? Is football dying at those schools ? |
Football and basketball are king in the WCAC and always will be because tickets are sold and revenue is generated. There is no close second. No one at these schools really cares about sports like lax except the kids who play them and their parents. |
Any google search shows tackle football down significantly over the last 10 years in the DC area. The idea the WCAC is strong in football shows how ignorant people are in this area. Check the demographics of the football team in tier 1 WCAC and let me know how those match up with the rest of the school. Robbing PG and DC publics of football kids doesn't show how strong football is. Why, exactly, does Maret need to recruit football players to their $50k a year school. Why did SSSAS $50k a year school need to drop out of the IAC football?
I don't see on the thread where anyone said lax attracts a larger crowd than football. That is flat out wrong. But, somehow, there's this weird sense of "we are great" attitude as the privates ship in a ton of paid performers for their football and basketball viewing. |
