2025 VA Governor's race

Spanberger's refusal to unequivocally answer two hot button issues (and we all know what they were) may have the same result.

Sears and her team have 20 days to make hay of this. I've seen it on Instagram already. You won't be able to read it on DCUM -- but he's getting a lot of positive reactions by being clear on these issues. Spanberger by contrast is being portrayed as just another conventional politician who speaks out of both sides of their mouth.

sorry, "she's"

Sears could win in this climate, but she ain't no Glen Youngkin. That's reality. And we do have a tendency to award the governorship to alternating parties.

I too would rather have a raving wack job as my Governor vs. a boring lady.

You know, this is a really good point.

I remember watching the Republican debates for president in 2016. There were 17 candidates on stage, including heavy weights like Jeb Bush and Chris Christie - but only one person was riveting -- and it was Donald Trump. And some of the things he was saying sounded crazy, but he beat them all, and then went on to beat Hilary. So I think you're on to something

A significant portion of our population is dumb AF. They got sucked into the cult.

Many horrible people have charisma, including the orange pile of dog sht.

Spanberger did fine. Earle-Sears came off poorly with the constant interruptions, hyperbole and nonsense. She changed no votes last night, and likely only mobilized a few voters on her side that might have sat out. Spanberger maybe wins by one or two less points because of it (so by 8 rather than 10).

Funny how no one, including you, thinks that they’re on the left side of the bell curve.

I very well could be (made no claim to be otherwise), but I'm surely smart enough to know I'm not on the pointy end of either side.

Back on topic, though, I've seen a lot of folk complaining about Spanberger's answers and claiming they were non-answers. Just because one doesn't like an answer doesn't mean it's a "non-answer" or "word salad." She answered nearly every question. On Jay Jones, she implicitly said she wasn't removing her endorsement (it's up to the people to decide), she explicitly condemned the texts. She didn't choose him, he's voted on separately, etc. It may be "threading the needle" or nuancing or triangulating, but it was an answer. On transgender issues she said it should be up to the local communities. That used to be a big deal to the conservatives, remember States' Rights, 10th Amendment and "the government closest to the people serves the people best"? And make no mistake, Spanberger is fairly conservative for a Democrat (but not conservative enough for the current Freedom Caucus style Republican party). She talked about a policy she supported of Youngkin's (nuclear initiative), etc., etc.

Again, just because one doesn't like an answer or it isn't an enthusiastic "Yes" or explicit "No" doesn't make it a non-answer.

Well said. But you just went WAY over the heads of most MAGAs. They can’t even read that long of a comment, let alone try to understand it.

That’s why Ds struggle with elections. We like facts, reason, and fairness. Not effective with a large portion of voters.

You can’t talk down to people like this and expect them to turn around and vote for you. While it’s correct she did “answer”, the response you replied to is intentionally obtuse and pedantic.

In normal conversation with normal people, people don’t talk like Spanberger did when asked questions that are supposed to be extremely, extremely morally clear. That’s the issue that you and PP are missing.

Good thing I’m not running for office.

You do realize that, right?

Please explain it to me.

I’m not running for office. Why would my comments on DCUM affect anyone’s vote?

That does seem to work for Republicans.

Sears is a parrot an idiot traitor. And if you think that racist RW MAGA is voting for a black woman you have not paid attention.
My parents have a house in ruby red va MAGA will not vote for her.

PSA Spanberger is the one running racist ads via the compare / contrast “smiling white lady with family walking in the woods” cut to “angry black woman” racist trope…

Every candidate in the history of modern political campaigns runs attack ads that make their opponent look unflattering and angry.

If I see one more Spanberger ad with her walking with a lady in a grocery store and then cutting to Sears saying "I AM SPEAKING"....I am going to vomit. It's the most tasteless ad I have seen in a long time. Spanberger could do better.

Wasn't this "I am speaking" when Sears was mocking Kamala Harris? Remember, Harris doing that during a debate?

Probably too busy thinking up responses to this: "Financial disclosure gaps, questionable gifts cloud Earle-Sears’ bid for governor" https://virginiamercury.com/2025/10/08/financial-disclosure-gaps-questionable-gifts-cloud-earle-sears-bid-for-governor/

“ Virginia Republican gubernatorial nominee Winsome Earle-Sears built her political brand on transparency and accountability. But a closer look at her public filings reveals a pattern of omissions and inconsistencies in her financial disclosures — including a $12,000 “gift” far above the state’s legal limit and multiple undisclosed trips funded by outside organizations.”

“If it were one or two instances, then this could be brushed aside as an innocent mistake,” he said. “But there seems to be a pattern of accepting gifts and not reporting them, which is troubling to me insofar as it risks undermining public confidence that our democracy is free from corruption.”

Corrupt Republicans love their illegal gifts and breaking the law.

Will any Republican hold her accountable? Of course not.

Funny how Republicans embrace corruption.

Have you even been in a conversation with someone like Sears who’s immediately interrupting you and taking over ever word you say the entire time despite admonishment from bystanders? That’s really far from a normal conversation with normal people and that’s exactly how Sears came across in that debate.
