Maybe you need to braoden your social circle?

I get it, but in reality, at Michigan, virtually every single program/department within the University is top 10, or even top 5 in the country. UVa cannot come close to saying the same thing.

The UVA boosters in the forum really need to take a step back.

+1
The arrogance is pretty astounding, isn’t it? Zero self-awareness.

Eh, I’m not surprised. Who wants to pay $66k+/yr OOS @U of M when you can pay $35k+/yr for in-state UVA?

Because most of the people on this website do not live in Virginia?

For good reasons haha.

I think you're both mistaken. I would wager the vast majority of posters are indeed from VA.

I agree. It's kind of funny seeing posters get triggered by this list because their kids' private has tanked.

So, people, if you think it's hard to get into a highly rejective school, it will be even harder now with schools gaming the system and admit more Pell grants and First gen students.

How do I get my kid pell grants and make them first gen? Can I just not identify as their parent?

I wonder if where you live might matter more. Could living in PG County or in DC (outside of NW) now become an actual advantage?

Please save your ammo for Wake, William & Mary, Tulane, Tufts, NYU, etc. Who dropped like a stone. Drop it like it’s hot!

Ha.

It seems you do not know as much about schools as you want to believe. DP here.

Please educate me Mrs. Professor.

Now people are starting to contradict themselves. Tufts at #40 is "being punished because it skews wealthy"? Virginia Tech is #47 and people were claiming that was because they had Pell grants and first gen students. W&M is even further down the list at #53, but some were claiming the student body "skewed wealthy."

Face it, none of you have a grasp on why one school moves up but another moves down.

Why is it so hard to believe that VT got a bump for Pell Grant students and strong social mobility and Tufts getting nailed for the same metrics? You are punishing these schools for attracting a wealthy student body.

Anonymous wrote:It's baffling that Michigan and UNC are ranked so high compared to UVA. In Virginia, Michigan is regarded as a safety school and UVA is much better. UVA has a much lower acceptance rate and the SAT scores are much higher, this ranking is a joke.

I thought the same. UNC is also a much easier admit in state and that’s where it takes the majority of its students.

UNC is much easier to get into from in-state than UVA is in-state. About 15-20% of my kid's NC high school got into or go to UNC. I don't think the same is true regarding my previous Fairfax County high school with regards to UVA. I'm not a UVA booster - my kids didn't apply or don't go to either school. I am just always surprised by all the kids who get into UNC from our school. Many are my kids' friends and while they are mostly good students, several are not top students.

A lot of what you’re seeing is that UNC keeps its seats for residents. Less than 8.2% of students are from out of state or international. UVA takes a whopping 26% OOS or international

How did UMD do? Did they jump UVA?

Or are they now fighting it out with VA Tech for rankings? Pretty sure VA Tech has a 70% acceptance rate. Way to go Terps!

24 < 25

Did you take any math classes in your life?

Anonymous wrote:It is noticeable that all the top publics went up in rankings except for one. Only UVA went down and out of top 25. Wonder why?

No. It’s at 24.

I thought UVA was at 26?

It is at 26. Went from 25 to 26.

No, UVA went from 25 to 24. Go look

It wet down couple spots below UNC on the Best Public Universities list and stayed about the same on the National list so overall UVA went down while all other top publics went up.

No, UVA rose from 25 to 25 in the nation That’s all everyone cares about . https://www.usnews.com/best-colleges/rankings/national-universities

To PP, not to be disrespectful but to clarify that the 8.2% is the admit rate for OOS, not how many attend.

The OOS attend rate is closer to 18%, which is the state-mandated cap. Though that is changing for a few of the schools in NC, they allowed a few (not Chapel Hill) to go to 25% OOS because they need the OOS higher tuition at those campuses.

Relax. UVA is still in the top 5 best publics. Top three of course is out permanently.

No one cares about that list which is why you get no response even thought you keep chattering about it.

We are talking about the overall rankings in which UVA rose from 25 to 24. Virginians shoujd be very proud

I'm so over Dartmouth so this makes me happy. I just dont like the smug dean of admissions there and his podcast. So, yeah, I'm projecting

YES!! He is so smug. I just can’t take him seriously. It’s like he drank his own Kool-Aid.

so why is duke up?

They must be paying off USNWR

Honestly, it has nothing to do with money.

USNWR is a popularity contest. Point blank. Act like you know something, PPs.
