Melania's Zara jacket came up at a party last night and no one could remember if there was ever an explanation for it from Melania.

What I would like to know is the how/why of how that jacket even came to be in her possession. This is a woman that usually wears coats that cost thousands of dollars and somehow she came to be in a possession of a cheap jacket from a mall store. There’s a story behind that.

My personal guess is that she saw it either on an intern from the Flotus office or on a teen at Bethesda school and thought it was really funny so she asked a staff member to find it for her, and then just threw it on for the first “casual dress” opportunity she had, without realizing the political shitstorm it would cause. My other guess is that because she’s always freezing, she was about to leave on the trip but had forgotten a coat, and just borrowed something from some random tacky staffer that doesn’t know how to dress for a WH job, and she is so poorly managed that no one thought to tell her that it was a terrible idea to wear that to visit refugees.

My understanding is the phrase was used in fascist Italy and that she would know this.

Unless she has rocks in her head, she would have to realize how dumb it is to wear when visiting the caged children or visiting a place near the caged children.

Hmmm...I guess that dress is successful in what it attempts to be and is sort of pretty in that way. I have to say that if I saw an adult woman who was not like J Lo or Cher or someone like that wear it to a party, I would do a bit of a double take and conclude she was in desperate need of attention. This had the potential to be phenomenal. Like a PP said, it fits her smoothly and her shape is great in it. But the neckline is a little too "target cheaply sewn halloween costume in shiny red"

It’s appropriate and fine. I wouldn’t look twice at someone wearing that dress though. I feel like it sort of hits all the expected notes for a NYE formal dress.

My mother in law wears a similar dress to weddings - hers is knee length but the fit is similar. It's a nice dress!

I’d love to have something like this knee-length in my closet.
