Facts

FCV 03 DA will not be stronger than BRYC 03 in your opinion?

Not really close. That Braddock team is awesome, the loudoun and Fcv mix at 04 DA will have Fcv 03 kids in the pool. Excited to see this DA team come together.

You sound like a Loudoun parent. If you knew better you would do better

Just curious. Why do people believe that "playups" are such great players?

The vast majority of them just started a year early.
The vast majority of them come back to age when they get older
The vast majority of them are only on par with their age group

Show me a u16 or U17 sucessful playup on a high level team and then I will agree that they are above their peer level. But please don't sell me on the fact that all playups are better then their peers. Especially at the younger ages. It's simple not true.

Agree, especially when most play-ups are usually just a year and a month or two younger than the oldest possible kid. In most situations it isn't really all that impressive that a kid is "playing up"

A player being able to play up by 2 age groups is impressive.

Does anyone know anything about NCSL's proposed field size changes to smaller field dimensions for U9 / U10 this coming fall? Thanks

Agree, but missing the cutoff by a month and claiming to be a play up is pretty silly.

For boys -- yes playing up 2 years on a good team is unusual.

For girls, it would impress me up until about U13, when girls have largely matured physically. Above U13 not so impressive.

I've seen entire U14 and U15 girls teams successfully playing up 2 or 3 years in travel leagues and tournaments. In most cases, above U14, you would probably not notice the age difference just by looking at the players on the field.

why does Bryc's ECNL id session announcement include the 06 age group? does that mean they are looking at 2006s to play up and help fill the ranks of their 13U pre-ecnl team roster?

Not involved in BRYC but my guess would be that if a kid can play up then include the age group for the original cattle call.

Geez, how long until we have pre-pre-ecnl? Usually the playups are by invitation only.

Bear in mind it's not NCSL driving this. It's U.S. Soccer. And the letter of the law is rather imposing. U9/U10 fields are supposed to have the new "buildout line" in addition to goal and penalty boxes that are just *slightly* smaller than the U11/U12 fields.

I don't know how many clubs can reasonably meet all those requirements.

Oh stop with the save childhood crap. Pre ECNL at U13 has been around as long as the league has. U13 is a transition year as it is the first season of 11v11. This is a natural year to get your ECNL player pool acclimated to the big field for a season before actual league play begins at U14.

In fact, for any league it is a transition year and should be used as such. Sheesh

Wrong. Pre-Ecnl plays a ECNL schedule without the flights to showcasing events. So look at the U14 ecnl schedule and that is what you will be playing. Plan on a few chaparoned tour bus trips a season to Ohio, Indiana, etc.

That will be for 05 next year. The 06 will be under pre-pre Ecnl...which is a fake title.

That doesn't invalidate what I said. "Actual league play" means keeping score and standings. U13 is still a transition year that doesn't necessitate a Pre Pre ECNL.

As the kids get older, do parents go less and less to games? Like do the players just drive themselves and show up or are the parents still there watching and acting crazy? If parents starting tapering off, when is that? U16 when they start driving?

U17 mom and I still go to all the games and plan to continue. Haven't sat at many practices in the last 2 years once older sibling was driving, and just did drop off/pick up in the fall since older sibling graduated.

My oldest is in college and I still try to go to his games, when possible. I don't think the number of parents on the sidelines (for games) tapers off as they get older.
