Charlie Kirk shot at Utah Valley University

Seeing the video (somewhat inadvertently) was like a punch a gut. I've always been registered as a democrat but I changed my registration to republican yesterday. I know you all are going to say I'm a troll, but I can no longer stomach the political program infecting the democratic party from the left. Democrats are lost in the woods, either operating under total cognitive dissonance, or employing a murderous hate-filled practice of politics that I want no part of. My eyes were first opened to this hate-filled politics when seeing the rising levels of acceptable antisemitism and the treatment of American Jews on college campuses (already on Oct 8 = those jews had what was coming, they deserved to be slaughtered and raped), but Kirk's assassination is the final straw. He did not deserve this, no one does. Words are not violence, they do not permit violence in response. I did not agree with much of his politics, but I was thankful that SOMEONE still believed in the value of debate in the public square, and he was teaching that to the next generations.

Sure you did…

“I think it’s worth it to have a cost of, unfortunately, some gun deaths every single year so that we can have the second amendment to protect our other God-given rights. That is a prudent deal. It is rational.”

He said it, not me.

Yes, this has been shared many times so what?

So, it's ironic. -dp

Uh, it started when the President and the FBI director falsely claimed the shooter was a trans person and digressed from there as facts about the shooter came out.

When did either of them say the shooter was trans? Link to specific quotes.

Hmm why was trans ever brought up ya think?

Because bug 👀 needed to find something, anything to prove the shooter was a “leftie lunatic.” Trump had already moved on from death penalty to yeah whatever, I'm getting a new ball room.

People here are trying to ignore and deflect.

Turns out it was it was as we suspected from the start: radicalized left wing weirdo fueled by his hatred of Charlie’s views.

Hate begets hate.

Yes, the hate of the RWNJs has many casualties.

The right wing have been spewing hateful messages since Trump made it ok to do that. Hate begets hate.

Also, you conveniently ignore actual politicians who are Dems who have been murdered/attacked in the past few years.

And let's not forget Comet Ping Pong. That wasn't lefties who shot up the pizza place.

Words are powerful. If you spew hateful message, you will get hate in return. And Trump is doing nothing to unite the country. He's even more divisive in his second term.

-signed an Independent

I am not going to get into a tit-for-tat with you. I could name plenty of incendiary remarks and actions on the part of the left that has caused death and destruction (have we forgotten about the baseball shooting or the attempted assassinations of Kavanaugh/Lee Zeldin/Trump?).

When people are constantly - and i mean CONSTANTLY - referred to as fascist, nazis, and the like - it signals to unhinged idiots that these people need to be taken out by any means necessary. Why wouldn't you want to kill a Nazi?

And, one more thing.... signing yourself as an "Independent" means nothing. Nothing at all.

Kirk himself called the Biden administration to a “fascist totalitarian dictatorship just like Nazi Germany” in a June 2024 speech.

And...he wasn't wrong. Do you remember that time the Biden administration was encouraging neighbors to call the Covid snitch hotline?

So if you knew somebody got one of the PPP Covid loans through fraud, you did not want it reported?

You know that’s what the hotline was for. You think the hotline was to report people that had Covid.? or people that didn’t have the shot? Are you daft?

All of you acting like the death of Charlie Kirk is a red line that was crossed, that there should be battle cries are completely full of shit.

You said nothing when the Wortman family was shot to death in a horrific act of political violence, you said nothing when a white supremacist shot up a school earlier this week.

If those didn't matter to you then you have NO credibility carrying on about Charlie Kirk. None.

You all need to go and do some deep soul searching.

Melissa Hortman didn't either. I guess the difference is you didn't see that video.

Ofte when I hear news reports about the Charlie Kirk assassination, they are juxtaposed with historically black colleges being on lockdown due to threats. The reports never give any details about those threats. Are they somehow related to the Charlie Kirk shooting? It seems strange.

I didn’t know Charlie Kirk, had absolutely no idea who he was until his death and I still really don’t understand who he was. However, I am shocked how no one is saying anything about enforcing gun control. There must be some level of cognitive dissonance at play here.

Why would you leave a party whose leaders ALL condemned the shooting and called for peace, and join a party whose leaders are calling for escalation and more political violence?

Please explain.

I would bet that there are a hundred posts in this thread calling for gun control. You just didn't read it.

Well Charlie Kirk himself said losses due to gun violence were acceptable (2023 Nashville TPUSA event).

Given Charlie Kirk's own statements and logic, the baffling thing is why his followers aren't following his words and beliefs and aren't accepting it.

Yes, there probably are. BUT
Not a single one from a Republican though.
