The three walk throughs were supposed to be 'identical' and present the options and have a presentation, and allow for feedback. The last one was 5-25 I believe. Did anyone here go? Any insights? Any new information?
What was the feedback? Thank you! |
| Window dressing for a decision they have already made. |
| Which one was decided? |
| They haven't announced yet, but this whole thing feels to me like they've already decided on the Ed center and are just trying to make it seem like they've gotten community feedback. |
i thought it'd be hybrid option ed ctr + crr ctr? |
That's my take on it. They had been set to do the 1300 at Ed Center but came up with the hybrid to placate those unhappy about 3500+ on the W-L campus. But, W-L will still be too big and they won't be able to make the Career Center seats a neighborhood school with just 700 seats so will just have to cross our fingers and hope enough families want whatever choice program they put there. |
For this reason, I don't like the hybrid option at all! The only "coveted" program right now is HB. They will not duplicate this in another location, would they? They have not done a good job developing Arlington Tech as to what it could be, so far at least, yet they are counting on enrolling hundreds more kids. They want to put Montessori into that space, and they have the community high school there. It's a huge hodgepodge of different programs, with different needs, yet it's the only other parcel of land that COULD hold a comprehensive high school, but only if they get all the space for it, and the other programs locate elsewhere. A pool would fit. Not a football field... not sure, if they could share field space with TJ at the park, since it's 5 blocks away. For some reason Kenmore already seems to be completely out according to their own analysis. Not sure why they even had it there to begin with, if the "lack of egress" is making the site so unsuitable!? Either way, I share the frustration with the other posters here. APS always comes up with a 4th option at the 11th hour, with limited data. And then they always decide to take that one! |
| If smart programming were in the mix, couldn't the Ed Center program take-off? Why not push for attractive programming if that's the best parents can do under the circumstances? |
|
Per the Sun Gazette, PKM wants the hybrid option. Surprise, surprise!

Why the fuck do we bother? How many hours of engagement are needed to come up with an ill-conceived-last-minute-bullshit-non-answer to our problems?
I am really starting to hate Arlington. |
This is exactly how I feel. I have watched various SB meetings and work sessions on line. I've signed petitions, filled out stupid surveys (where they ask leading questions) and voted. None of this has worked. I really, really can't stand the school board. The CB sucks too b/c they keep approving affordable housing. We need to pay for an urban planner along with another group that can actually do math (i.e., mckinley, yorktown/hs boundary mess). Who wants to bet that they'll be widely off the mark on how many will elect to go to Arlington Tech? |
what is this? |
oh hear, hear. I have emailed in so many comments to various planning scenarios (including of course the current call for feedback on Buck and Carlin Springs properties, which has one frigging scenario with APS getting one stupid administrative building). I have signed facebook and email petitions to APS and County Board, begging them to address overcapacity, stop building these high rises, put a freeze on more affordable housing until they get the current children who live in the county a decent education. Why do I bother? I am so disgusted at the mismanagement of funds--$250,000 for a "memorial" to HB's history, tens of millions for Nauck "town center," art and beautification projects for county property, but no one can allot the money to build a fourth high school... |
Two PPs here hitting the nail on the head!!! So unhappy with the school board and county board! |
| Its the hybrid option. Murphy's recommendation has already been posted to the APS website if you look under the School Board doc section. They hadn't even specked that out yet for the "galley walks" so what a waste of time if you went. |
