What happens if there is a shutdown?
Without any action from lawmakers, funding expires for nine federal departments and a number of agencies. The Agriculture, Commerce, Homeland Security, Housing and Urban Development, Interior, Justice, State, Transportation and Treasury Departments will all shutter.

More than 420,000 people will work without pay and an additional 380,000 workers will be furloughed.

The real question is how long till the democrats cave after the shutdown does go through.

They don't have to. They can just wait til the newly Democrat majority house is sworn in, in January. The republican reps have already mostly left for Christmas. What an idiot.

And, this Democrat doesn't care if they build a wall or not; it's probably not going to make a difference with immigration, but it will cost a lot of money. And the shutdown is showing middle class or working class feds what the Republicans think of them.

I agree that Trump probably doesn't care about the wall one way or another but wants a distraction and chaos.

Only a week ago, President Donald Trump said he would be "proud" to shut down the government in the name of border security. “I will take the mantle. I will be the one to shut it down,” he asserted.

Well, it's on Trump.

Nobody wants his stupid wall. Even his new chief of staff thinks it’s a nutty plan.

Has anybody checked to see if it was Mitch McConnell up in the White House Christmas tree yelling random things?

House and Senate lawmakers are leaving the Capitol on Friday evening without passing a budget deal, ensuring there will be a partial government shutdown when funding for a large number of federal agencies lapses at midnight.

McConnell didn’t even bring it to the floor

He tried. No one wanted it. The car Senate already passed a CR on Wednesday. Why didn't Ryan have the House vote on that?

Recall that Trump said he would be “proud to shut down the government for border security.”

“So I will take the mantle,” he said. “I will be the one to shut it down. I won’t blame you for it.”

His words. He should own them.
