Just goes to show how little antisemtitsm means to the DC Council. They are effectively announcing "here in DC, you can use taxpayer money to support Farrakhan, and you'll be given a pass. Jews don't count for shit." Now, if one of the white council members donated money to Richard Spencer, different story. |
Breaking news: you're fighting with some posters who are not Jewish. Plus, I think you'll find most Jewish people quite up to debating with you. As long as you don't amplify, minimize, deny, or support anti-semitism, you won't be called an anti-semite. So far, you are failing on that count. |
Yep, and this creates a huge deterrent to attracting competent folks to even want to engage in DC politics. If they know that hate speech will be openly used against them without repercussions, why would they even want to be involved? It's ugly, it stinks, and unfortunately it makes some people long for the days of the control board and question whether DC residents even deserve proper representation. They are doing themselves no favors but are too stupid to see it |
I can't imagine that a Jew would want to run for a council sear given that at least one member is openly antisemitic and the council overall accepts it. |
| Lopez has resigned and the despicable, no-class Trayon White must now go as well. |
The days of the control board and then Tony Williams' mayoralty were DC's best days in decades. Fenty was pretty good, but since then governance has begun to slip back. Bowser isn't quite back to the Barry days, but she's too close for comfort. |
100% agreed. |
That would make me want to run even more. I hope a ton of Jewish folk s run for council so white can get to know a few. And yes as someone mentioned above, I am soooo glad Washington has congressional oversight. I can't even begin to imaging the dudgeons we would Benin if the buck stopped with us. We are too dumb. |
| Two city council members are Jewish (Brianne Nadeu and Elissa Silverman) Please run, but it's not like we're under-represented. |
Apparently not enough to have an impact on his stupid conspiracy theories. |
Agreed. |

So.....that's it?
Let's summarize: made antisemitic statements and claimed he "didn't know" they were antisemitic......and then, for good measure, demonstrated denial of the horrors of the Holocaust ("gated community") and couldn't even bother staying for the tour, making up a lie about a meeting. An uproar ensued, and he says he's not antisemitic. DC liberals rush to his defense, making up excuses and giving him the benefit of the doubt. Then, a rally is held to support him, at which a venomous Farrakhan scumbag makes reprehensible remarks about Jews, and even (verbally)'attacks a Jewish council member. He is asked to repudiate the antisemtitc remarks, and, even knowing that questions have been raised about his own antisemtitism, he vehemently refuses to condemn the remarks. In doing so, he conveys to his constituents that antisemitism is an acceptable form of bigotry - and reveals his own. And then, for one added "WGAF," he disrespectfully stuffs his face while the rabbi pleads for some action against this show of antisemtitsm. And....then.....nothing. He isn't even censored. Because, after all, it's only Jews we.'re talking about. Disgusting. |
I don't think it's who he's talking about..it's who he is. In DC, liberals defend liberals. Yes there are plenty here who rightfully denounced him, but at a political level our Council would censure Trump (if they could) but not this guy (who they can). It's the only explanation. Maybe their constituencies and supporters are too deeply entangles, or maybe they don't think a liberal can ever actually mean or stand for something really bad. They leave me thinking both, as they've done nothing to clear up where they stand. |

Happy Birthday councilmember.
Who's going to the party?
|
|
At this point, Trayon can't relent because he now has a reputation for "stickin' it to those folks in NW" with his constituents. He's using the tactics of Trump and it's working splendidly in his favor.
The more he is criticized, the more his constituents become emotionally attached to defending him. They can't see themselves as having made a bad choice, so they continue to double-, triple, and quadruple-down on that bad choice. It's exactly the Trumpian mindset. |
