off topic, but begs the question: does MCPS even have enough funding for the new region models? I'm also perplexed about RM in the new options. The boundary doesn't change but miraculously it becomes under capacity. |
There are 22 schools on the CIP. Only Wootton has a brand new school being built close by. Makes sense to make use of it. |
No other school has a brand new school being built close by. |
Woot-ton-burg! Woot-ton-burg!! |
County council will fund it. |
Many of our schools need repairs or replacement and are not even on the list. |
Is it really that hard to be a grown up? |
Again, I have to disagree. Those things are part of operations for a school system. If the original warehouse is useless due to leaks, mold, or the lease is up, it has to be replaced. You can't ignore a leaky roof in your home just because you also have to pay the mortgage - you have to do both. Same for turf fields. The inequity because some schools have them and others don't is unacceptable. Every kid needs to have access to play, and when there's no turf, the fields get closed, get divits that sprain ankles, and turn into a muddy mess, that then becomes hard as a rock. You can complain about turf, but it's a losing argument: Environment - the chemicals it takes to maintain a grass field are just as bad Cost - a grass field costs less up front, but maintenance is more over 10 years than turf Injuries - we would all prefer well maintained grass, but we dont have the money for maintenance and the grass fields are in horrific shape (except Churchill, but their booster pays for that, not all the MoCo taxpayers), and those cause injuries too Temperature - there are rules when it's too hot to play to take more breaks- follow them and it's not a problem The proposed bus program is not my priority, I think it's a waste of time amd a complete disaster. But the board of education, who we voted for, picked Taylor and this is his priority. We will see what happens here. But you are wrong about the warehouse and the turf |
They only have good fields at some schools. You just raised more inequities. They do ignore roof, plumbing, gas and electrical issues. |
Why is it ok to have leaks and molds at schools but not ok for a warehouse? How is it equitable some schools have nice facilities and others have to endure unsafe buildings? Isn’t that more important than turf fields? I don’t think turf fields are environmentally friendly. It’s basically plastic and needs to be replaced quickly and the cost is a lot. |
Stop the same comment again and again. I already replied many times Wootton has the second worst CFI. Only one school is in slight worse shape. |
Please provide citations for this. Wootton families are asking for remediation of immediate problems, not a full renovation. Wootton is on the CIP for 2035 (after being bumped twice). That demonstrates Wootton families are patient. They just don't want to move to Crown. Why can't you understand this (you probably do understand, but you're trolling). Are you suggesting that remediation isn't even a possibility due to lack of funds? If this were the case, then Crown's construction should cease immediately because there is no need for a brand new school costing $400M that will be under enrolled. While you're at it, go ahead and halt all CIP for full renovations and focus on simple remediation of existing buildings. That would save MCPS hundreds of millions of dollars. Oh, and no more renovation of sports fields or facilities. Those are a luxury if you can't remediate mold, HVAC, gas lines, etc.... in schools that need it. |
What are the only immediate problems that Wootton wants to be remediated with all of the petitions out there? Do you have a list? Are those immediate problems costing millions or just a few thousands or hundred thousands here and there? If those immediate problems cost a lot of money and current Wootton can still open to operate, MCPS probably would want to wait until the full renovation in 2035. Sometimes it is just faster and cheaper to tear up the building and build a new one. |
Big difference between storage and students/staff in buildings. |
They don't care about logic. They demanded a new building, got one offerend and now are complaining as its not what they wanted. If MCPS is doing a full renovation in 10 years, thats more than most schools are getting. |
