Well, this person successfully defended themselves last night.

You celebrating a dead teenager?

Yep. Absolutely!

Humanity is doomed. Too many a-holes.

Like you who want sympathy for dangerous criminals (of any age) who completely brought this on themselves.

It’s a tragedy. It didn’t need to end with DEATH.

Clutch those pearls.

Like I said, too many a-holes.

Like you

Not me. I’m not rejoicing that a 13 year old was killed.

Unfortunately that 13 yr old criminal was headed in the direction of murdering someone innocent.
You can't seem to comprehend the danger these "youth" pose to the community.
Sorry, not sorry.

Like I said, too many a-holes. Ready to write off 13 year olds as murderers. So disgusting.

You are stupid, naive, and disgusting if you don't understand that this 13 year old was a dangerous criminal who eventually would have had a list list of victims most likely & eventually ending in murdering someone.

He died doing what he loved. (Threatening to murder someone)

I think the kid’s family should be prosecuted tbh.

Can you defend the ghouls on this thread celebrating this kid’s death?

This "ghoul" is relieved that there is at least one less dangerous criminal around to be able to victimize anyone else.

Volenti non fit injuria.

He was a CHILD.

DP

No, he was a criminal predator who might just have easily murdered you or me.

I hope that the victim of this attempted carjacking is afforded counseling and resources. I am sure it was a very traumatizing situation.

no, he was a child. like the 12 yr old who was shot to death a while ago after he was out at 4am with people breaking into cars. they are really young kids and if you can't see that what kind of person are you? I am not somebody who makes light of crime. I am a middle aged pearl clutcher who came from a place where carjackings do not exist and a murder in town would be the big news on the front page of the newspaper. after 23 years in DC, I am now considering for the first time whether to move somewhere else, specifically for the uptick in crime. also, having 14 yr olds doing so much of it makes it even more scary because they have no brain. however, i still have humanity to see that these are super young kids, barely out of elementary school. i have a 14 yrd old and she is never out at 2 am, actually not even at 9pm and she would never carjack anybody, notwithstanding the current lack of consequences. It is not hard to see that these kids are growing up in some type of environment that fail them big time. i want to be safe but I wonder if there is anything that can be done for these children to help them grow up into normal adults other than shooting them dead or incarcerating them for decades at 13.

Honestly, you are the problem. You are from somewhere else, you come here and excuse this youth crime madness "their brains are underdeveloped" ... "I wonder if" but have zero real solutions, and then you have the gall in the same breath to talk about moving because you have the luxury to do so. So you want lenient policy in a city for everyone to endure who can't leave, while you contemplate hightailing it. because crime is out of control. Is this satire??? So myopic.

You celebrating a dead teenager?

Not celebrating, but the PP was acting like no one could possibly defend themselves with a gun they have a license for, and this person obviously did. It’s also not a celebration to accurately point out that if you want to go around sticking guns in people’s faces sometimes the consequence is you are going to hold up the wrong person. I believe the kids call that “f*ck around and find out”.

the carjacked person was a federal security officer, so not just a random accountant who decided to get a gun with a few training sessions at the range. and he shot an un-armed teen, hard to lose a gun fight against somebody who is making up a gun with his fingers. the reality is that if you are sitting in a car and multiple people get around you and one put a gun to your window, you are much more likely to survive if you get out of the car (they normally block the car so you cant drive away) and let them get it than take out your gun too. they are just going to shoot you first.

He assessed the situation and defended himself appropriately, as any one with training would do. It's the kid's bad luck that he approached someone who knew exactly how to walk away alive.

Such a simplification, and you know it. I won't honor this with any discussion.

look, i am not the problem at all. i dont make excuses and i never in my life thought "their brains are underdeveloped". i was 15 too a long time ago and had a very clear understanding that shooting or stabbing people was a big no-no, shoplifting was bad and you dont do it so i expect that any 15 yr old knows it too. i mentioned how was the place where i am from because i keep hearing that crime is normal in a city and what's the big deal and actually no, it is a big deal and it is normal to live in places where you are not killed for a car by a bored teen because i grew up in a place like that. i am sure it helps that i come from a country with reasonable gun control laws so there are actually no 14 olds going around armed. I also never said i want leniency. i certainly dont think that a child who commits a carjacking should just go home like nothing happened because it is a serious crime. i am simply noting that where there is an epidemic of serious crimes committed more and more by young children, the issue is more than one bad apple that should be killed or locked up for life.

I really get peeved when people who moved to DC want to sound off on stuff. You didn't grow up here. You have no clue. Its worse than it was in the 90's when DC was the murder capital of the world and Simple City was killing people just to make sure DC beat Detroit for the lead. You move to "gentrified" areas and wonder why people are getting mugged, beat up and robbed these days. I just cant stop laughing at all the outrage about crime on the hill. Capitol Hill is NOT a safe area, never was unless you are maybe two blocks off of it going to the Hawk & Dove.
