Ukrainian victory over Russia is inevitable

Russians are willing to lose hundreds of thousands of men. It's absolutely bonkers. I mean how do you fight against suicidal people, particularly when they have nearly 4 times the population.

In the longterm, Russia is absolutely wrecked. Their demographics are terrible. They've lost an entire generation of young men. Most of their military hardware is gone now. Literally, thousands of tanks. It's breathtaking how little Russians care for human life and their own strategic interests.

I mean Poland would absolutely destroy Russia if they ever crossed the border.

But this is a tough time for Ukraine. They are on the defense. Not supplying them is just heartbreaking. They are obviously very good fighters. But Republicans are what they are. Pro-Russian. Same with the far left. They seem to love Hamas, but not Ukraine.

The situation is tragic.

It is a very good argument, however, for the necessity of air dominance. The US would never fight this kind of war

Wouldn't that be doubly true for Ukraine, though? Except to make things worse, their women are in Europe with no plans to return.

Truth be told, according to old maps, Ukraine and Russia are one empire. There was just a sect that broke off later in history. These people are the same people and share the same roots.

Bad blood happened and they split.

This war is dragging on and on unnecessarily and I don't feel as if Putin is a real threat. Zelenskyy is the threat because he comes every few months and finagles multi millions of dollars out of Congress. Now with the war in the Middle East and happenings in the Gaza Strip we now have 2 wars.

We are watching Babylon aka America fall. This country cannot sustain a 3rd war.

Yes, but Ukrainians are on the defense.

They tried a summer offensive. But the minefields and the dialed in artillery destroyed them.

I mean imagine everything between Maryland and Maine being mined. And the artillery.

That's what Ukraine is dealing with.

It's unwindable without air power. And even F-16s aren't going to do it. They're fourth generation fighters. It's not F-22s and F-35s. They can be shot down.

It's a war of attrition now, and without the US supplying shells and ammo, Ukraine loses. Russia is four times bigger and they are willing to die for this.

But Ukrainian officers do seem very inclined to preserve their troops. Unlike their Russian counterparts. But none of this really matters.

The situation sucks for Ukrainians. And Russians are willing to suffer absolutely enormous casualties. They started with an army of 360,000 solderers. They've lost more than 315,000 of them. It's absolutely nuts what Russians are willing to endure for this.

Russian men seem very willing to die horrible deaths.

That's the problem.

Russian economy is growing sanctions backfired. Biden showed we have no military supply chain. Sad.

Thank you for explaining how dire the situation is for Ukrainians and in ways that make it easier to comprehend. That expanse of mines in

This unnecessary war is so heart breaking.

Praying for Ukraine to prevail and be able to rebuild this remarkable country in the best ways possible.

Also praying for innocents sent to the slaughter from Russia - it must be horrible for them also.

Putin has so much blood and suffering on his hands - don’t know how he and his cronies sleep at night

Not an economist or math major, huh? Got a news flash for you, sunshine. Growing inflation and interest rates isn't considered "economic growth".

"The Bank of Russia lifted its policy rate to a staggering 16 per cent last Friday in response to inflation running at a rate of about 7.5 per cent."
https://www.smh.com.au/business/the-economy/putin-s-choice-the-war-or-his-people-20231219-p5esdd.html

What it means in practical terms is that if you take out a car loan, it will likely be somewhere at least around a 21% interest rate. Would you buy a car at a 21% interest rate?

7.5% inflation, means that prices are continually going up and up and up (not that they rose 7.5% and stopped increasing).

The Central Bank hiked rates in August, September, October, skipped November, but now again in December? These rate hikes were supposed to lower inflation, but instead the Russian inflation rate will likely rise to 8% by January 1st.

Not sure what your point about supply chain was. If the Russian translation software you're using doesn't have a lot of advanced US vocab, it's okay. Take your time and research it, then come back and re-post.

I am laughing at the Russian bot farm posts.

This totally sucks for Ukraine- but still a great ROI and easy way to kill Russians.

I want Ukraine to win; fund them at 3x current levels.

Russians are like the worst people on the planet with those whacko ISIS groups.
The more dead of them both the better for the civilized world.
This is simply an investment to diminish the barbarian horde known as Russia. Money well spent.

You know it's bad when the Russian Central Bank dishes out a quote like this:

"Governor Elvira Nabiullina said that inflation had become a systemic problem and likened the Russian economy to a car driving too fast, a situation which could not “go on for long”."

Only if you assign the Ukrainian dead the value of zero.

I want Ukraine to win and am no fan of Putin or authoritarian dictatorships - However I take no joy in anyone being killed. - many of the Russians don’t want to fight either. Many of them have family members on either side.

It is important to maintain commitment to Just War theory principles (Ukraine does meet those criteria as it is acting in self defense and they have tried to minimize civilian casualties from what I read).

I hope the US and EU can help Ukraine to end this terrible war as quickly as possible, and that Ukraine is able to rebuild and make their lands safe from mines again.

I hope the millions of Ukranian women and children who had to flee can return to their homeland soon

Most of the Russian soldiers are there for the money. It tends to be poor men from the hinterlands. The elite in Moscow are not fighting. If you watch any of the absolutely brutal footage from this war, it's not men from Moscow. But Russians from elsewhere that are getting absolutely destroyed. At this moment in time it would be Avdiivka. Its thousands and thousands of dead Russians. And prior it would have been Bakhmut. Prigzhen himself, the head of Wagner, said he lost 20,000 in Bakhmut alone. Add in Marinka. And the absolutely catastrophe for the VDV - special forces - at Hostomel.

Russian men are dying by the thousands in Ukraine. Every day.

And Russians seem to be okey-dokey with that. Very weird people. Don't claim to understand why Russians think this is acceptable.

But Ukrainians are having a hard time too. They are confronted by an invading country that's four times bigger than them and generally regarded as the second most powerful military in the world. They've been able to take back a good deal of Russian gains - Kharkiv, Kherson, not to mention north and central Ukraine when the Russians went for Kviv. But Ukrainians are suffering. This is a very hard war.

To me it is a typical better red than dead situation. It’s not fair that Ukraine is losing territories but I would rather live under Putin than be dead or exiled trying to survive. Maybe it’s just me.

Yes it is completely heart breaking for Ukraine most of all, but also for Russian innocents . I am sure that the mothers of Russian dead soldiers care very much but their concerns are probably dismissed. They are human like us.

I hope and pray that the US and EU stay the course with Ukraine and help them to win. It is in the best interests for all of us who value western liberal democracies and the price they have had to pay to defend it is excruciating.

Ukraine sounds like it has a proud and rich history, culture and distinctive language. They are also amazingly resilient, tech savvy and courageous but this is a very rough road for them right now.

Praying for peace in Ukraine and for the US and EU to stand by them until they have secured their freedom and self autonomy.
