Wuhan virus (coronavirus) arrives in the USA

Does anyone know anything about the effect of smoking on the virus? The counties that are hard hit now have heavy smokers- China, Iran and even Italy.

Also, it seems to be spreading faster than the normal flu. Is this true? How is it spreading faster?

I've been wondering the same thing. For some reason they are leaving smoker/non-smoker off of these stats.

And where is the mask when you need one?

You can probably put smokers in the category Chronic respiratory disease since most people who smoke have black lungs and if so they
Mortality Rate for the group is. 6.3%.
Or you could potentially roll few categories in one...
Chronic Respiratory. 6.3%
Hypertension 6.0%
Cardiovascular. 10.5%

And add the risks of each group and factor in age and individual health as
Smokers always have those three comorbid conditions.

Male death rate is 2.8%
Female. 1.7%

Close to 50% difference. Possible the women have lower blood preassure
no smoking so no respiratory and usually obeisity is atypical so no cardiovascular..

Add to it shaking hand among males, public restroom without dividers and also if any urine gets on it can infect.

Maybe they are only testing the very, very sickest patients?

According to this article, they did not have test kits until Wednesday before last, the day they announced their first two cases. With limited kits, they are probably testing the sickest patients, who are the ones most likely to die.

Also, no one believes their numbers. A variety of pretty credible stories says that their number of cases is actually much higher. This article estimates it is more like 18,000.

Fever in almost all cases. Dry cough in most cases. Runny noses in only 4% of cases.

What I am unable to find is the typical course and duration of the illness. Is it a week? Two? Does it start with a fever or a cough?

Well you easily extrapolate base on what you already know. This virus causes pneumonia. Lungs swell, little bubbles get inflamed and make breathing hard because all the inflammation make things to swell.. bubbles fill with bacteria products water, mucus,whatever..and now oxygen has no room to fill, your lung capacity goes from 100% to..30????
If you had healthy lungs to begin with, you will struggle but live. If your lungs are damaged by smoking or vapping and now you get it.. you have nothing to work with. That is why even flu or cold that leads to pneumonia can easily kill smokers. That is why. it pays not to smoke anything ever because unlike you can poop junk you eat, you can remove nothing from your lungs. They have no exit hole for dirt and solids, so like in chimney, the soot lives in you till the day you die.

Remember some months ago how doctors rejected lungs from 50 years old chain smoker? Here is why, see for yourself..

Do they even have that data?

I’d be surprised if smoking/preexisting lung damage isn’t a factor.
