Is Notre Dame screwing up?

Hmmmm interesting

The football team is tested by another organization outside of the campus testing site and those numbers do not get reflected as quickly. Those numbers do eventually hit the dashboard, but it takes a few days. The numbers will be reflected on the dashboard on the day that the test results were released.

they get their results the same day so the dashboard should be updated. They are not being transparent. Notice the Saturdays without testing for the "general population" doesn't happen on the days they have home games?

No testing on Saturdays due to the fact the testing happens at the stadium. It is fine. 0.7 positivity rate. 33 active cases. Notre Dame is beating COVID.

By now we would be seeing cases...it is looking very very good for ND and it appears they may actually may make it through the entire semester DESPITE the fact that had such a spike earlier in the semester. I know some of you are on the edge of your seats waiting to see the updates...especially those who think "Notre Damed is screwing up." https://here.nd.edu/our-approach/dashboard/

Every 3 days, as many Americans die from COVID as died on 9/11. More than died in WW2. This is the worst public health threat the US has been hit with for the past 100 years.

What do you NOT get about that? It is stunning.

I'm really sorry but many of these are people like my Dad - older and in horrible health. Young college kids do not die from this or it is exceedingly rare. Go look at any of the moms' facebook sites and read post after post after post on the depression their kids are under attending either 1) online at home their freshmen year or 2) an online at school program. The moms are asking for help b/c their teens are depressed, unmotivated with online work and frankly suffering from a mental health crisis. We have already had a suicide near us this year. More of our young people are suffering the effects of staying indoors. A school like Notre Dame is offering them a chance to be 18, 19, 20 and 21, albeit with reasonable precautions. Good for them and to all colleges that were strong enough to open!

yeah and I am so sure you’re a huge proponent of mental health care in your real life.

how is “let the old and sick people die so the young people can have fun” reflective of Notre Dame’s values?

note: I think it’s acceptable for schools to cautiously open in person, but they need to consider the broader community and equity issues (for example, if elementary schools are still closed).

They are cautiously open. They closed down for 2 weeks to get the cases under control and have been successful. Case positivity rate currently 0.7%. Current active cases 33. Successfully flattened the curve. What more do you want?

like I said, cautious opening and monitoring is good. what’s frankly pretty gross and evil is you claiming that certain lives matter less than kids having fun, and pretending like you care about mental health (because I am pretty sure you would not be in favor of universal mental health coverage.)

I am not the PP you are quoting. The PP's comments about elderly population is not ND's stance. Go away and stop trying to make ND the bad guy. They are doing great.

The PP is correct. The dashboard will eventually reflect the positive cases from the football team. Per ACC rules, testing of the football team is now done 3 times a week by an independent third party, not by the university. The test results are not reflected on the dashboard as quickly as the university testing. Also, testing is not conducted at the university on game days. Most of the testing done now is surveillance testing.

Don’t be ridiculous. 7 football players just tested positive on Tuesday. Where did they get it? Who have they transmitted it to between last Friday and Tuesday?

The lucky part is that college students can be fairly insular and they are largely not too burdened with other issues (high blood pressure, eg) that make covid more dangerous. Yes, it is a big problem with football players because of the extra weight many carry.

Anyone else find it completely absurd the role of football at colleges? Clearly, these football players are in a special category of student. They aren't event treated like normal student-athletes.

It is fine. They can afford it because football brings in lots of money for the school. They are being extremely cautious about it. Don't worry your little head about it.

At whose expense? The vast majority of football players will suffer from brain damage for your entertainment. What percentage of football players at this level are African American? How does that differ from the larger ND student population? It's basically poor black high school kids who would have no academic chance at getting into ND playing for majority white students, alum, coaches, and administrators for their entertainment and financial benefit. Truth.

Those kids want to play. Nobody is forcing them on the field.

The dashboard has been updated and now includes the football players under the 9/21 cases. See? Nothing being hidden as the PP purports.

So, you don't disagree with the facts. If the majority of these young AA men had other options rather than bashing their brains for the pleasure of white people, they would take it. Less than 2% of college football players will make it to the NBA.

Careful, your ignorant agenda is showing out. First, you mean NFL. Not that they’ll make it to the NBA either, but it’s safe to say their goal is the NFL. Second, those kids have dreamed of playing college football throughout their young lives. They weren’t recruited to play for the man. They are playing at a high profile school because there is simply no other way to make it to the NFL without making themselves known in college football. They aren’t being taken advantage of (not withstanding the NCAA students should be paid argument, which is different and with which I may agree). They are treated like kings on campus. They want to be there. They want to play. Take your head out of your ass and learn something about that against which you argue.

Well - 7 positives on a football team likely means double that in upcoming infections. I assume the football players are not sitting in cells so presumably many students who have classes, facility, football coaching staff, support staff and families now must quarantine.

The reality is ND like many other schools is still getting positives and they are not spontaneously generating.

Are the football players actually going to class?
