The flash forward that is several years from now and she's on her death bed might suggest that she did the study and it bought her some time. I've always thought that it seemed pretty far into the future for her to still be lingering around. Kevin's son looks to be at least 8 or 9.

The first flash forward is to August 31, 2020 - the Big 3’s 40th birthday - aka, the premier of the next season (if they ever get to film again).

Just watched the episode And agree that Randall is such an A$$ for asking Rebecca to do the trial. I hope it’s all in his “alternate reality”, but I could see why this would make everyone “not talk” to him.

And in the previews for the season finale, we see Kevin at the hospital with a blonde who looks like she is in labor - but I don’t think it’s Madison or anyone I recognize. What is that scene?

And what show was Beth watching? Ya Ya - I am clueless.

What are Kate and Toby staring at in shock? The looks on their faces - Kevin and Madison? Something with the next door neighbor? I hope it turns out to be something funny and not something terrible.

Didn't seem like he did, although I was surprised that he was particularly mad to begin with, because Jack always forgives Rebecca, Randall, and Kate (not Kevin so much) because he loves them so much. It was contrived, although for the purpose of the alternate reality I guess.

And of course these were alternate realities. So suppose Randall is angry because he didn't meet William until near the end of William's life, and had lost his father previously--the adopted father at that, lending a kind of precariousness to life. So in the alternate reality he projects the resentment to his younger self, even though it's illogical, given getting William sober and curing his cancer.
