Maybe getting rid of AAP for "equity's" sake.

They do worry about more than redistributing children by race and socioeconomics.

Tholen is ready to jump in on all that day one.

How about we consider candidates who actually know something or have an opinion on all of those other actually important issues.

Novel concept I know.

But then nobody would have a reason to mention Karloutsos or Mobasheri!

Karloutsos has more varied real-world experience in schools than Tholen. I value her experience in school safety far more than being an environmental educator.

I am independent and I voted for her on Sat. She has three kids currently in Fairfax public school, two in elementary school, one in middle school. I trust her word "for kids".

I value Elaine’s years of experience as an FCPS parent, teacher and environmental program director more than Anastasia’s experience, although I’d take either over Ardavan. Elaine’s greater sensitivity to the challenges are also important to us - Anastasia’s responses focus on devoting more resources to Langley (after it just got an $80M renovation) as a way to attract wealthier families from other pyramids to Langley. Elaine would try to find a solution that makes both Langley and McLean families feel good about the outcome. And she has more ties to people in the Herndon and Marshall pyramids as well.

My spouse already voted for Elaine and I’ll be doing so tomorrow.

Karloutsos wants to be seen as a moderate Republican, but either she or her supporters are big on dog whistles. Granted it’s hard for a Republican to win in Dranesville, but acting like Elizabeth Schultz 2.0 isn’t going to do the trick.

It's going around like wildfire that Elaine knew all about this and never said anything about it.

It's fine if she really believed in moving kids around for "equity", but that contradicts what she's been saying.

So I guess you're voting for Cheryl Buford, too, because she has more experience as an educator than all three of the current at-large members put together, right?

Hynes and Strauss endorsed Tholen. It does no good to get rid of those two and replace them with a clone.

It’s kind of sad that 2 of the 3 Dranesville candidates - Mobasheri and Karloutsos - seem to think what might happen to the boundaries in Great Falls in 2032 should take priority over every other issue that affects schools in Dranesville.

It does make it easier to vote for the third candidate, Tholen. She is steady and appears to care about some other issues.

Explains why she looks so miserable all the time.

While I have some reservations, I do plan to vote for Cheryl for an at-large seat.

However, I will not vote for Priscilla DeStefano (who just parrots lines she is fed by the local Republicans) or Vinson Palathingal (who has plenty of his own, but unfortunately bad, ideas and does not listen to anyone who disagrees with him).

We need a thoughtful, responsible School Board member, not a loud, perky cheerleader for a single school.

Anyone who supports One Fairfax is neither thoughtful nor responsible.

It's sad that the main point of contention in this election pits the Langley "cheerleaders" vs those who are so resentful of that community that they would exploit poor kids to satisfy their sense of moral superiority.

John Cook, a Republican from the Braddock District, supported One Fairfax, as did all the Democrats of the Board of Supervisors and School Board. No Republicans opposed it (Herrity and Schultz abstained, and Wilson was a no-show at the meeting where it was voted upon by the School Board, as has so often been the case during his tenure). One would think that, if the commitment to consider the impact of BOS/SB decisions on racial and social equity embodied in One Fairfax was so terrible, they would have both attended the meetings and taken a firm stand against the policy. Didn’t happen.

Langley made itself part of the 2019 election story when, rather than accept repeated assurances from School Board members that there were no current plans to move kids out of Langley, some Langley parents went ballistic and created their One Great Falls web site, which later changed its name to Voices of Fairfax and has spent the last three months churning out misleading videos and press releases, and then endorsing a slate of all-Republican candidates, all with the goal of protecting the boundaries of a single school pyramid in perpetuity.

The problem is not OneFairfax. The problem is how the School Board is interpreting it. Putting SES at the top of the list of considerations and stalling boundary adjustments because of OneFairfax is a great example of the viewpoint of our Superintendent and School Board.
It shows that they think that they need to move kids around and magically their problems will be solved.

I taught in a bused school. More problems will be created than solved. There is no good reason to have that at the top of considerations. There is no reason that waiting for a OneFairfax policy should have delayed sending kids from McLean to Langley. No one on this forum or on the School Board has given one good reason why they delayed that move. The only logical conclusion is that they wanted to change the demographics and it wasn't logistically working. So, they needed a new policy in order to do it.
