Option H is permanent and the old Wootton HS campus will be closed for good?

I agree. I see signs everywhere now. People are crazy if they honestly think it’s just a couple people who oppose this. I don’t think there is anyway they can go with this option at this point.

If that is the case, wootton families should stop worrying and talking further about option H on the forum because it won't happen as you say. Just let MCPS & other non-Wootton families worry about solutions to current issues of underenrollment, limited budget, CIP list and new Crown building.

Haha the reason it won’t go through is BECAUSE we keep talking about it. But thanks.

Then why isn’t RM changing any all? They’re overcrowded and also part of reason to build crown. Wootton is never over capacity but has to change because of DEI goals

QO, GHS and Wootton are also overcrowded and closer to Crown - its just logical that Crown should be filled with communities zoned to these schools.

+1 million - this is what should happen and I say this as a QO parent. Our HS is overcrowded and whichever option MCPS goes with, some of the neighborhoods further out that are zoned to QO but further out need to shift to Crown.

You’re wrong. QO and RM are overcrowded. Wootton has been undercapacity for many years.

Then MCPS should move out some of the areas serving Wootton but are actually physically closer to Crown, to Crown, and pull in from RM or other areas to Wootton. Wootton should just get different neighborhoods zoned to it then.

I also think that Falls Grove needs to go to Crown and also the houses along Muddy Branch/Diamondback

Not disagreeing with you but none of the options reflect that. None of the options even touch RM which is still overcrowded

If MCPS was smart they would pull in neighborhoods zoned to RM to Wootton and improve the diversity in that school too.

Crown could also actually be a decent and diverse school if they pull in equally from Gaithersburg, QO and Wootton. Pulling in only from Gaithersburg and QO will not do much for Crown.

I agree with this is a good suggestion, but I doubt that MCPS could go down this route. I recall someone says that MCPS could ONLY pick from option A to H with a small twist or change. There is a news that the 2027 budget restraint only allow to let MCPS running. I doubt that they have money to fund a new Crown HS expenses (teachers, staff, utilities and etc).

That may be most likely, but no, they're not limited to those options. And BOE members can also propose new options after the superintendent releases his recommendation.

The fact that there is 43!pages of Wootton complaining about getting a new HS along with other outside complaining about the same should tell the superintendent all he needs to know. These people are unserious and clearly not in need of a new facility. Start with Damascus and Magruder as the CIP proposes, move the boundaries to fill the school. If that means Wootton is now split, then so be it.

Why is the only serious way to demonstrate that Wootton needs renovation to close it and move students to Crown? No other school has been presented with such an extreme and unfair option. If this proposal were applied to other schools, the reaction would be immediate and overwhelmingly negative.

This thread has many trolls defending this option who are deeply invested as it effectively transfers the asset from other neighborhoods to their neighborhoods.

To some extent, too many active petitions from Wootton telling the media and public that their current school is unsafe for the last few months pushes MCPS to think outside of box to come out of this proposal option H. It is just one of the options, and Wootton should not completely blame MCPS on this. MCPS has no money, and it is a fact. MCPS wants to solve the urgent issues of renovating many schools to get them at least running (the minimum requirement) on the CIP list.

It is true that Wootton needs some urgent fix because MCPS neglected the building for years. It is equally true that the Wootton community does not want to move. Responsibility for these conditions lies with MCPS, not with the families at Wootton.

Yet the narrative continues to place blame on Wootton while pushing relocation as the preferred solution. This approach ignores the root cause of the problem and unfairly shifts responsibility onto the very community that has been impacted by years of inaction.
