DC Shut out of privates: Cooper MS?

Anonymous
So my DD was shut out of all the privates she applied to for 7th grade. We came back from overseas last year, and she's been going to a foreign language school, which I believe adversely impacted her SSAT scores--and likely her subsequent admissions to the schools she wanted to go to. Anyway, we wanted private due to the smaller class sizes and more individual attention we thought she'd need to transition to FT English. While we can probably still try some other schools that do rolling admissions, I'm beginning to think we should be thinking about public.

Can anyone with current or recent experience tell how you think a fairly introverted student used to a small school setting would do here?

Thank you.

Cooper is great! I would contact the school to inquire about your concerns. My son goes to Cooper and is doing well. We, too, came from overseas; however, my children were in English-speaking schools.

^^ My son is also an introvert.

Cooper is a good school academically, but check the drug reputation there. I suppose it's no worse than the DC private drug use.

Is it worse than any other random middle school?

This is a troll. Cooper is one of the best middle schools in the entire DMV. I'd love to send my kids there.

Agree with this. No one says anything but good things about Coop.

The PP didn't say anything that would come as a surprise to those familiar with the periodic drug busts at Cooper over the years.

I have never seen nor heard anything about drugs at Cooper. Do you have kids there? I do.

My kids are out of middle school. Don't put your head in the sand, I'm still hearing about those Cooper kids. I live in Mclean too.

OP, Cooper is a great school. There are several foreign service families there, so your child will not feel out of place. We've been very happy with the school!
