DC Shut out of privates: Cooper MS?

Whatever you want to call RR & Carson then. Same part of the country. Less than 5 miles apart. Combined to send 150 kids to TJ for class of 2020 (or almost 1/2 of FCPSs allotment). Seems like they are TJ feeders to me. But sure. Western Fairfax/ Carson and RR are not TJ feeders. You keep telling yourself that.

I know Cooper parents who are concerned about drugs in the MS (and have kids whose peers are into drugs), Thoreau parents who are concerned about bullying (and have kids who were badly bullied). We are in the TJ feeder part of Western FFX which has a reputation for hyperintense, super competitive tiger parents. And guess what? The school has a cohort of hyperintense, super competitive tiger parents.

Deny it all you want, but even the "best" FCPS MSs have a downside, and can do better.

Are you referring to Rocky Run, PP? If so, their record doesn't look so good. "Offenses Against Persons" - 20 in the last five years, in addition to 6 drug incidents and 15 disorderly or disruptive behavior incidents. Ouch. Looks like there's more going on than simply competitive parents.

I suggest that before you slam a school for a non-existent drug problem, you check out the problems within your own school.

RR is certainly a TJ feeder, but not mu school. And, BTW, what exactly is an "offense against another person." . There are offenses against staff and offienses against students listed separately. So who, exactly, are the "other persons"? Someone wasn't paying attention and backed into my car in the K&R line? Was that an offense against another person? Since MSs don't host athletics, I'm genuinely baffled by this category. Isn't everyone in the school staff and students? Are parent volunteers getting roughed up?

All this tells me is that the school doesn't report incidents.

And what your comments tell the rest of us is that you have trouble with cold, hard facts. Sorry, but your personal axe to grind with Cooper says far more about your own issues. Might want to think about that.

I live in McLean and Cooper wants to avoid a sh*t storm like happened a few years ago when the media reported the drugs use there. I hear it on the grapevine not in the media.

OP, this thread got derailed but you mentioned rolling admissions- which schools are you looking at? We are somewhat in the same boat but for 6th and don't want to have to make another change after just one year

I have no axe to grind where Cooper is concerned. But I do know that different administrators at different schools vary greatly when it comes to recording and reporting disciplinary infractions.

Judging from your post, there are a lot of extremely thin-skinned parents at Cooper who are only interested in the sunshine-and-puppies version of events.

We're all aware you and your "grapevine" are full of shit. Please move on and worry about your own kid's school, which obviously has more than its share of problems.

If by "thin-skinned" you mean parents who aren't just going to sit back while their kids' school is slammed unnecessarily, then fine by me. The stats are there for anyone to access. Interesting, and pretty pathetic, that you think there's some kind of conspiracy around Cooper, but not around any other school. The facts speak for themselves. Cooper has a much better behavioral record than any other FCPS middle school but you can't stand to admit it.
