The defense overall argument based on opening is that the catfishing is a “theory” which was developed by investigators and then to receive a deal, Juliana read the discovery and went along with it. According to the defense, this theory caused a schism within the original investigative team which led to officers being reassigned (this seems to be true, at least for one investigator, but he is the one who testified yesterday and said in the context of the codefendant’s cooperation he would have different conclusions). This is just the best avenue the defense has to create reasonable doubt. |
Nah - it’s pretty standard to demonstrate character and motive. The whole thing is so impersonal. We know nothing more about either of them really. Very odd. |
No. |
Where the prosecution is effective is they have flat out asked every detective/officer if they changed evidence, only relied on JM‘s testimony, etc., and they all said no. Specifically today, a strong witness said the decision to arrest Brendan was based on the blood evidence. She asks questions quickly and directly and gets good answers from the witnesses. Complete opposite of the defense. Brendan is screwed. |
But my point is that him cheating on his wife a bunch of times is a very weak motive that is actually easy for the defense to flip around to show it was a reason for him NOT to have killed her. They’d argue that because he had all this casual sex while she was alive, plus she was the primary earner, there was no motive at all to murder her- Juliana even mentioned in a letter that Christine might have been aware of his cheating. See? The defense could easily say “well the fact that his wife might have even known, and didn’t care, shows that killing her wasn’t necessary at all”. |

“Was he a serial cheater?” “Yes.”
“Was Christine impeding him from having sexual encounters with other women?” “No, in fact some encounters occurred while they were vacationing with friends, which she may have been aware of.” “Was she threatening him in any way due to these affairs?” “No.” “So why would he need to kill her? He was having affairs, she knew about them, she wasn’t taking action. Why kill her?” I’m happy they did not bring this line of questioning up because it actually casts reasonable doubt on him having any motive. Stick to the physical evidence, the circumstantial evidence, and the fact that immediately after she died, he moved the au pair into the bedroom with him. It should be an easy conviction. |

I haven't read this whole thread but had some burning questions.
1. How was Brendan able to get so many women to sleep with him?? Is he super charming or something? Because he is not that good looking and does not have a lucrative career. It is not normal for a normal person to have so many opportunities to cheat right? 2. Some posts allude to Christine and Brendan meeting young. Like high school? And then he dropped out of college but she still stayed with him? Why? Why stay with this guy? I am not blaming her but just curious. I wonder if her family knew what trash he was and if so, if they tried to persuade her to leave him. Since the prosecution didnt bring up evidence of prior abuse, I assume there was no physical abuse? But yet there must have been signs that he is not right. Why didn't anyone see them and why didn't she leave or leave any evidence of trying to leave. |
Seems to me that the defense should be prepared with how to say the officer's names. "Gee-oche-eeo? Gocheeeo?" What a dolt. |
Eh, a lot of people with Italian ancestry in the US don’t pronounce their surnames correctly. Carroll was actually pronouncing it correctly according to Italian pronunciation, Mr Giaccio pronounces it in a more Americanized manner. |
The defense should pronounce it as the individual does. There should be no question or stumbling. He sounds wholly unprepared. |
| Oh Brendan. You are doomed. Lol |

BB dropped out of college?
How did he get this high profile job at IRS? |
|
Before he was an agent for the IRS he worked for the IRS just as like a regular employee and before that he and Christine owned a Mathnasium tutoring place. He dropped out of college.
Ick, access to young girls.
|
Yes he dropped out. Did he take college courses over the years after? Maybe. His mom was a “big wig” at the IRS for about 40 years. He got a regular IRS desk job first and then over the years trained to be an IRS special agent. |
Ick, access to young girls.
What is an IRS “regular employee”? What are the duties of the job of a “regular employee”? |
