You sound boring. I'm a np, with no horse in this race of sahm/wohm. How can anyone be bored with downtime in such a busy world. So many books, so much music to discover, so many things to take an interest in. I'm a painter and work 55-60 hrs a week . I'd way rather be making art and taking hikes and relaxing with loved ones. I'm glad you love your career, but it seems sad that you're ability to be so easily bored is making you miss out on life.

+1. I have so many hobbies and interests that I always have a few projects going. Maybe I'm just type A, but I love learning and doing things. Oh, I'm a SAHM.

Caring about animals and working with them is not holding them superior. It is one way we can show the compassion of the human spirit. The least among us.....
My teenager volunteers at a cat rescue. It brings her peace. The folks that adopt bring joy into their lives and she likes being a part of . She's a lovely girl, kind to others, funny and great with children. But animals have her heart. Just because many of you dislike pets, or animals, doesn't mean those that work with them, as volunteers, rescuers, veterinarians, etc.,don't care about starving children, etc. We all should work with the causes that bring joy and peace or have our passion.

I think women who have 3 babies back to back WANT to have a family. To assume anyone would do this to avoid dieting, to become part of the unpaid workforce (seriously?????!), or to get attention is ignorant and insulting. When i had three kids under four i would have been shocked to know that people thought of me as lazy or that i had some motive for having kids other than wanting kids. Also i didn't really enjoy the attention from being pregnant - it was awkward for me. I can't help thinking the pp's above are hateful assholes. But i shouldn't be so quick to judge - maybe they are just suffering from stupidity.

DC folks are a bunch of complainers about everything from cost of living to commute times to weather to taxes. I've lived in bigger cities where life is objectively "harder" -- i.e. much higher COL, much less house for the $, much longer commute times and people don't bitch half as much as DC people do. I know people who have left places like NYC, Hong Kong, SF, and London and taken jobs in DC because they wanted an easier life and cheaper COL.

I think views on apartment living and also on renting rather than buying are changing year by year. It used to be that owning property assured you the American dream bc property would ALWAYS appreciate, you could always sell in a few weeks if a new job came along or more likely -- you stayed in the same job/area your whole life and selling was never an issue. Now people realize that it's good to have flexibility for better opportunities in other places and that does not come from owning RE -- in other areas (besides NYC/SF/LA) real estate is generally tough to sell and here it'll sell but you're not guaranteed any kind of profit anymore.

I think everyone has confused working with life. It is not your life...you have a job in order to make money.
Philosophies from people like Sheryl Sandberg and the Yahoo CEO have actually set women backwards. ..not forward. It's actually a backlash against the life of a woman. Family life has been vilified. Things are not easier for women..they are harder. You have to prove yourself all the time. Even if you are a SAHM...you have to account for your time and prove your worth.

Yes...I think all our kids are, and will likely continue to be fucked up as parenthood is not the priority. .it's narcissm that is the priority.

I am a liberal agnostic and I cringe when I read or see the Duggars...crazy belief system, but, yeah, they have great well adjusted kids. All 19 of them. I wonder. ....
