I would not donate to a minor’s go fund me. |
Jay hasn’t shared that on his social media so I would be suspect of it. The one for Kevito was started by family friends, or at least families that knew Kevito. I feel like that would’ve been coordinated with Jay |
I reported that one. |
I know so that’s confusing. But the mom also seemed confused about things in her interview and so I’m not sure what’s true or not. |
I know when my 1 son was in the hospital for a different issue that was only briefly life threatening I could not properly speak English or comprehend questions and English is my first language. I had no concept of time and my brain was misfiring. My guess is if English isn't her first language, the combo of that, the accident itself and having at least 1 son in the hospital has made it hard for her to communicate and completely comprehend what is asked. My heart goes out to her. |
Yes, I wouldn’t be surprised if she was already in shock and then caught off guard by the phone call. I can’t imagine even functioning enough to do an interview. |
I’m sure someone will come in the thread to yell at me over this next statement, but I was grossed out that the interview was completed and aired. |
I agree. That interview seemed incredibly predatory against a women who doesn’t speak English, who was in great distress and most likely didn’t understand who she was speaking to (a tv journalist). They should be ashamed. |
It's the news, it's their job. I was surprised no one from her family stopped her. |
They “can” yes, but you and all these tragedy seekers are not owed the info. |
This may be cultural. I teach at a school with a very high percentage of Hispanic families and most of the parents are newcomers to the U.S. and don’t speak English. There’s a, not fear exactly, but deference there sometimes to people in perceived positions of authority. They don’t always know things like they can decline news interviews or they don’t feel empowered to do so. It’s possible the reporters called her phone and she just felt like oh, they called me and they’re with the news and I need to respond to their questions. |
Did she have 3 kids in the car? Driver + two in hospital? |
My family dealt with a tragedy involving young people and our corner of the world was mobbed by media; reporters in front of houses asking for comments and one local reporter staked out at the lone funeral home to interview the parent. The reporters were vultures. Went on for days. |
This is horrifying! I also have a child in Longfellow, and we will definitely be having a serious conversation about this death. It was the death of a classmate. I know teenage brains process information in different ways than adult brains. But it is still crucial to pass this info on to Longfellow students, so maybe it will save a life someday. |
I participated in that pushback, and you are wrong: it was not a reputable company. Not at all! Furthermore, a drug-treatment in-patient facility belongs in a RURAL area where addicted teens can focus on recovery. The very LAST place to put one - in fact, the dumbest place for a teen drug treatment facility - is right next to a public high school, which is what they were scheming to do on Davidson road. |
