It's a good tournament, with teams from all over, so it's a chance to play teams you've never played before. There is quality outside of the Championship flights. It doesn't make a lot of sense to go at U10, but you should definitely be trying to play there at U11 and above. The other thing with the younger girls tournament, you're playing to build your "resume" with the Jeff Cup organizers so that they know your team and you increase your chances of being accepted once they reach the Showcase ages when it matters for recruiting.

Jeff Cup - go and play your best regardless if there's a medal at the end of not.

There are 7 flights and the winner of each gets a trophy because its not the Gothia Cup with 10 rounds that is played over 2 weeks.

Player exodus about to happen from BRYC at the end of the spring season, especially current U11's that have been playing CCL this year but ECNL does not start until U13.

Maybe those players return in a year, maybe they don't.

Where would they go? I don't know that there are a lot of high-level alternatives close to BRYC, and that's very young to be driving 45 minutes (or more) to practice.

agree... that seems pretty short-sighted

Is BRYC the type of club that welcomes players back after they leave for another club? Generally, top level clubs are not very forgiving of players who leave for a "better" club and then try to come back if things don't work out; lesser clubs often are, as they recognize where they rank in the soccer club heirarchy but clubs who considered themselves elite are less understanding.

That's just stupid. Players leave for all kinds of reasons. Clubs with egos are assholes. Even FIFA teams accept players that left.

I know some families that didn't like the impersonality and large number of tournaments for the younger kids so left for smaller clubs and more development.

There is huge turnover in the soccer world anyways. 2-4 years down the road there's a good chance many of the same people won't be there

If a kid is really good --they'll take her.

It's funny how Clubs expect loyalty, but offer zero in return. They'll cut your kid in a hot minute for a better outside player.

I really like this question. I wish more people would give their opinion. I'm not sure what to think personally. I guess I look at it as each flight is it's own tournament and the champions is the champion of a group of similarly competitive teams. I'm OK with giving the 7th flight champ a trophy even though the 3rd place team in the top flight would beat them 20-0. People need to understand this though and remember to not get too high with the wins and not too low with the losses. There is always a better and weaker team out there. I was reading on another thread where a parent was bragging that their A team beat a club's B team for the championship in the 3rd flight of a 4 flight tournament just to take a jab at the B team.

NCAA still has the NIT and all that means is that the winner is 65th and yet teams still play.

Don't question the importance of winning a bracket because it isn't important other than for the egos involved. The kids like competing, don't over think it.

For any club, I think it depends on how you leave. If you leave and try to take everyone with you or spend months bad-mouthing the club to destroy it, then it's not unreasonable to think that a club would not welcome you back. And, sadly, that's on the parents, not the player. But if you leave and don't burn bridges, then I'm sure a club would take you back if you tryout and make the team.

So got a question. A few people have mentioned some clubs in the area are only scrimmaging u9 and u10. What clubs and do you think they would be interested in scrimmaging a small local club on Sundays? This would be for girls.

We have a few open weekends and a few girls who don't play on Saturday. Thanks

I guess the answer depends on why your DD plays soccer. Hopefully its about fun, competition, and a love of the game. She's likely getting those things no matter what bracket. We can't all be in the top 5%, and development can not occur without periodic competition to measure your skills. I think its awesome to see the winners at all levels, those girls on the lowest brackets may even get more out of it than in the championship bracket. Even losing is a learning experience at a tournament.

Speaking of Jeff cup, how do the organizers determine which bracket your team should be in? Do coaches/managers identify their preferred bracket at registration, or does the tournament do it all? Please tell me this isn't a gotsoccer ranking determination...

When you apply, you have to update most recent tournament and State Cup results/placement. You apply through gotsoccer so they have all those specific games listed and can see what types of teams you've played and how you've done against them. They don't look only at the total points/ranking for teams but the overall body of work.

You do request the level you want your team to be placed (most competitive, competitive, etc) but you don't request a specific bracket.
