FCPS comprehensive boundary review

I just saw an article with Melanie Meren defending the upcoming boundary changes.

Hypocrites like her wait until their own schools (Madison) get additions, and then pontificate about how other kids should be redistricted, regardless of what they or their families want.

She is an utterly despicable person.

It's almost certain that Reid and Gatehouse have been working with Thru behind closed doors and they have drawn up scenarios. At this point they are probably using the napkin notes from the BRAC meetings to pitch the boundary changes in a way that makes it difficult for BRAC members to challenge them when proposed.

I think we are putting our heads in the sand if we believe BRAC parent recommendations will be followed. Gatehouse aligned interest groups and Vanessa were specifically appointed to the BRAC so they can drown out our parents representing pyramids and ensure boundary changes happen.

People, the real work behind redistricting has already been done. There have got to be are already draft plans in place—this isn’t something that’s being worked out from scratch once these meetings are fine. Balancing enrollment, adjusting boundaries, and ensuring that the numbers mostly work for each school has been calculated already. It’s not a mystery! Move this neighborhood here, that one there, etc etc. It’s a simple formula and uses data that we already have.

When people here act as though there’s still a lot of debate or that the plan is in process, it shows a lack of understanding about how these decisions are made in within FCPS recently. Public opinion might change things at the margins for some school on a limited basis, but the demographics and school capacities have already been analyzed and balenced. Think about it for just even a minute. With such a huge, complex project affecting hundreds of thousands of families, who really really believes they haven't done some serious internal planning?

Yes, they're saying no firm maps exist yet. But they are NOT starting from scratch. They've run the numbers internally and “mapped” out some draft solutions. Not because they're being deceptive, but because that's just what a task like this requires.

The public meetings could catch issues the data might miss AND will appease those who complain the loudest. But let's all just be realistic about how planning processes work.

+1 they had all this information on day one . Hiring an out of state consultant to study this and provide recommendations was done to create a target other than themselves for the inevitable blowback from parents. Anyone who didn't immediately recognize this must not have ever worked with any level of government. It's pretty common.

I’m with you 100%. The work’s already done, but some people are just dragging this out to act like they have a say, when really, they’re just wasting time.

BRAC got a lot of applications because people were desperate to have a say, but the pyramid representatives are ultimately just a bunch of useful idiots for a superintendent and school board hellbent on destruction and whose incompetence and hypocrisy will come to haunt the local Democrats for many years.

If politicians on the Board of Supervisors like Dalia Palchik and Jimmy Bierman think they are ever getting elected again after turning a blind eye to the shenanigans of the likes of Michelle Reid, Robyn Lady, and Karl Frisch, they are going to be in for quite a rude awakening in two years.

1) we need a catchier domain URL like FCPSboundarychanges.com. Should be a splash page of the elevator pitch talking points regarding unethical/questionable things during this process.

2) we need volunteers to hold up signs at major intersections advertising that URL and "You're kids school boundary is changing!"

I think it could double, triple the eyes on this now and pressure on the SB this spring once new boundaries are proposed

DP, but overall people oppose boundary changes and want to remain at their current schools. It’s not even close. Even the LWNJs like Vanessa want their own boundaries to remain the same; she certainly isn’t rallying her Mantua neighbors to move to Falls Church.

The School Board knew this going into this process based on the work of the prior consultant, but simply chose to ignore it. They stand to pay a high price in 2027 for their perfidy.

Before the changes to 8130 even passed Dr Reid was describing what their models showed (that elementary assignments were more likely to change than high school.)
