You're missing something here, though... Whether willful or not, it's very clear that a large portion of the American public is ignorant to the Constitution. You and I might agree that what Trump did is wrong and in direct violation of what was intended by the Constitution, but how many people are out their saying he didn't break any laws and this is not a big deal? I've been cringing at the amount of (usually older) people I overhear saying that this impeachment trial is a joke and the democrats are just embarrassing themselves. I'd like to think that they just truly don't understand, but honestly, I think they're fine with it. They think it's okay to make a few threats, because in their minds, he didn't pull out a gun and shoot someone in the face. And even then... they'd probably say it was justified. Actually, when you think about it, it's terrifying to not only realize the abuse of power that is being thrown in our faces, but how many people aren't even batting an eye at it.

One great thing about being older is that you have a sense of historical perspective that younger people do not. Those of us who have lived through big events like war, assassinations, riots, economic upheaval, etc. is that you know trivial BS when you see it. Ukraine is trivial BS. Sorry if we older folks are hard to persuade otherwise. Also we don’t get high and forget to vote on Election Day.

You sound so old that you don't remember that bribery is a crime. Bless your heart.

Hunter Biden told me that bribery is not a crime after all. And neither is using cocaine! What a guy.

First, there's no evidence that Hunter Biden has committed a crime. Second, HE'S NOT THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES EXPLOITING HIS OFFICE FOR PERSONAL GAIN. How hard is it for you to keep this little fact in your head; maybe age is the culprit?

Well, let’s address your first point. No evidence of a crime? There were 38 payments by Burisma totaling $3.1 million to his company Rosemont Seneca Bohai LLC. That is evidence - now is it a crime? That would be for a jury to decide, not us. Also there is the crack pipe that he left in a rental car in Arizona. That sounds like evidence of a crime, but again, whether it is a crime or not is not up to us.

Well since that seems suspicious, you'd better look at some of the payments made to the Trump organization over the past 3 years!! They add up to MORE than $3.1 million, in fact it looks like the number is closer to $100 million! That is evidence - now is it a crime? That would be for a jury to decide, not us.

In ALL of this business about Burisma and Hunter (people do not mention their other US board member who I think is still ON the board) nobody has EVER pointed to some advantage Burisma or its owner reaped that came from the US and could potentially be linked to Biden as VP. Name recognition? Yeah, just like, oh, Ivana-Eric-Don Jr not to mention Trump hisself (misspelling intentional).

Now, if there WAS something Burisma gained, there could potentially be some kind of bribery involved, and that would entail US laws--which Trump would not have to ask Zelensky to investigate, because we have this outfit called the FBI, and we have these agreements with Ukraine about cooperative criminal investigation. This whole GOP claim that Trump was trying to trample out the vintage of corruption with Ukraine on July 25? --nope, not buying it, would have been shouted to the rooftops by him then.

It strikes me that besides being a Russia buddy, Trump palpably dislikes Ukraine for having been interested in Hillary (who didn't like Russia) so his person craving for adulation factors in here. He also cannot relate to a government that was voted in by a people trying to SEVER themselves from oligarchy, that's not the kind of government he wants to play with. He actually does want a swamp, but hit has to be HIS swamp, with him as the biggest frog.

Doesn’t it look like a massive conflict of interest to have Hunter’s LLC receive $3.1 million from a Ukrainian gas company not long after his father was named the Obama Administration’s “point man” on Ukraine in February 2014? This is corruption. Why do so many people have a hard time admitting it?

They must be the same people who have a hard time admitting that it is corruption for foreign entities and lobbyists to spend $$$ at Trump owned properties.

One difference here is that the Trump Organization has been in the hotel business for decades - what are they supposed to do, shut down because their chairman became POTUS? Whereas Hunter Biden’s expertise in the Ukrainian gas business magically appeared right after his father became the Obama Administration’s point man on Ukraine. But since you prefer willful blindness, go ahead and equate the two situations.

Jimmy Carter had to sell his family peanut farm, so yes, that was the expectation if he wanted to be POTUS. No one forced him to run, er maybe Puty did, who knows.

Gosh, it is like you have have never heard of the EMOLUMENTS clause. It is in the Constitution. Trump has been violating it THIS ENTIRE TIME.

As soon as you admit that there is a massive conflict of interest in hiring Javanka as WH “advisors”.

Ivanka and Jared reported $82M of income as White House Advisors last year.

Seems high. And that doesn't include the billion dolalr bailout of 666 Park Avenue.

They are White House Advisors.

Hunter Biden was a private citizen.

You want to keep playing the whataboutism game?

They don't have to wait, they can go after Hunter Biden now. The fact is, all these Rs can't stop sockpuppeting enough. Biden is not the president of the United States and did not blackmail the president of Ukraine.

Hunter Biden is irrelevant to this story, despite the Russian propaganda through Joe DiGenova/Victoria Tonesing attempts to make it so.

From an entertainment perspective, Hunter Biden is the only part of this story that is interesting at all. Big cash payments from sketchy foreign companies! Crack binges! Fooling around with your brother’s widow! I see a Netflix series in his future.

Don Jr- daddy please love me, would be good entertainment too.

Yes, as a matter of fact. Trump should have divested himself completely of his businesses in order to assume the office of the president. Absolutely. What is wrong with you?

There’s an election coming up...isn’t that a more appropriate way to determine this nation’s leadership? But if you want 2020 to be all about Trump vs. Adam Schiff or Trump vs. unnamed CIA employees, don’t be surprised when Trump is re-elected.

okay, boomer

By the way the previous most idiotic thing I had seen was the Clinton impeachment, which of course blew up in the faces of the GOP. At least in that case, your average citizen understands pretty well getting caught with an intern. This Ukraine stuff just does not have the same entertainment value.

I think the average citizen actually understands this pretty well. Maybe you don't? If I am holding a pen, and you ask for it, and I say "sure, but I need a favor from you," I think most people understand completely that I am holding onto that pen until you do me a favor.

It is precisely because there is an election coming up. Among the founders' concerns, as documented in the notes of the convention, were that an unscrupulous president might do anything to get re-elected, and at the power o fhis office at his disposal. This is EXACTLY the kind of situation they foresaw as needing additional remedies.
