He did and that's why he died. Randall thinks if he'd only stepped up, he would be alive today. This has had lifelong ramifications and why he confronted the intruder and purse snatcher.

It actually really bothered me she kept flip-flopping with him. These characters are so self-involved. He thinks horse and carriage rides are cheesey and terrible for the horses? They are! Chill out, Rebecca.

And the Rebecca and Jack perfect couple thing is just TOOOOO MUCH already. Your husband getting your family lost in NYC because he won't listen to you is infuriating. Not, hey, what's going on with you, babe, stop, you're the best babe, let's get pretzels and make out now.

YES! There were so many strange things going on. Rebecca gushing about her trips as a child, but then telling Jack her dad would lose his temper and her mom got so drunk she got them thrown out of a play? But it was "Dad's City."

I thought this way too. Not very realistic. The writing is getting lazy and cheesy.

Yes, this is part of Randall’s alternate reality that I think is the subject of the next episode - what if Jack had lived?

I think she was just really sensitive about the carriage ride because Jack had made it a fun, special experience for the whole family and she didn't appreciate it being called "cheesy." But I totally agree with your last paragraph - it's tiresome seeing perfect Jack and Rebecca, always so kind and respectful to each other. I mean, it would be great if that was real life for long-married couples, but we all usually have some moments we aren't proud of. I wish they'd show something like that. And agree about the making out in front of the kids scene. A kiss? No problem. But it was a little gross that they kept at it.

They DID show something like that a few seasons back, when there was significant tension between Rebecca and Jack when he was drinking and she was singing professionally again.

I'm talking about the more mundane moments in life - not dealing with a big crisis. Just a bad mood or a snippy remark. We never see them behaving the way real couples often do.

How are they perfect? Jack fees insecure because Rebecca is more cultured and had nicer childhood memories so he gets testy and anxious. Rebecca feels she needs to present her perfect memories and parents in a bad light to placate him. He won’t learn from her, he won’t let her lead. How is this a perfect relationship?

Because the little tensions are resolved too easily. In a real couple, if the guy's insecurities are making him a jerk when he gets the family lost in the city, his wife asking, "Hey, Babe, what's going on with you?" wouldn't elicit an instant heartfelt, vulnerable admission about his insecurity.

I have a feeling that in that future scene, the family is gathering to say goodbye to Rebecca. Perhaps they know this is it for her, or maybe she's requested life-ending measures. Which would explain why it's so difficult for everyone to go there.

Best scene of the night was Randall and Kevin talking outside the car. Randall's anxiety is overwhelming to those around him. I also appreciated Kevin's reminder that he is paying for Rebecca's treatment.

Off to ask my DH if he knows what a clutch is!!

Rebecca was somehow an expert on the NYC subway system?come on writers. Wealthy people do not and definitely DID not ride the subway when making special trips to the city. Even if her dad has taken her on the subway as a child she would have been holding her parents hands and rushing through the terminals not understanding what was going on let alone remembering how to get all over the city by subway.

It wasn’t clear whether or not they stopped taking the trips when she got older. The memories only seemed to be about when she was little. Either way no no no - wealthy people visiting the city did not take the subway. There is just no way she was
an experienced subway rider. And for some reason this really bugged me.

Randall is a huge @ss to emotionally blackmail his mother. She knows she has limited time left where she can remember things. She wants to spend those with family not in a strange place she doesn’t know all alone... I don’t blame her.
