First day drop off -- MD tags

I really have no issues with DC people on a day to day basis.

And then I come here and I wonder, wtf is this backwater hellplace that we have moved to? Why is everyone so self righteous and shrill? Why is everyone so sure that they know everyone's story just from a sentence or two? Or a license plate on a car? What was the mother of the poster supposed to do? Enroll her kids in MD school for a few months so their plates matched their state?

Register her car where she actually lived?

They got priced out, they should pull up camp and take their kids and their churches and leave this part of the city that we bought and paid for."

That may be what you're hearing, but it's not what they're saying.

It IS true that the city isn't doing enough to crack down on residency cheats (across the whole city) and it is also true that the city is not effectively policing Sunday parking (mostly around capitol hill); but aside from that I think your impressions are pretty radical in terms of the lens in which you're viewing the reality around us.

Pull her kids out of school. For two months to send them to a school in Maryland, when the next year they'd be attending school in another state? Sure. Would you do that to YOUR kids? Does the welfare of her kids matter to you at all? Are you entirely incapable of understanding any issue that isn't within your narrow little dichotomy? Her mother did pay DC taxes. 2 months of the year is far less than the 50% of required residency time that custodial parents would require to have their kids in DC. And, again, frankly, does the welfare of any children who aren't yours matter to you AT ALL? This woman was not a residency cheater. She was a mother trying to do her best.

And I'm pretty sure if she was a diplomat's wife and they'd been relocated but were keeping their kids in the same school system for continuity for two months while they lived with the grandparents in Chevy Chase.... you'd say, "but of course."

But... but... cheating! I know. You have a stick in your ass the size of Gibraltar on this issue. You've made it clear over and over again. But really, like other people have said, I think ithis is really about black people for you. If you didn't bring up government workers and PG county every other post, I would not think so? I might take your points more seriously? But you do.

And that is why you are full of shit. This isn't about residency cheaters. This is about you.

That is about as close to an admission as you're going to get.

My mom bought a car towards the end of the school year with MD tags, because in between our move to another state, we were planning on living with my grandparents (who lived in MD) for a few months and in a few months our current residence would not be our official residence after they sold the house. Also, insurance and registration was cheaper in MD at the time. So even though we were DC legally DC residents, attending our in bound school, my parents had MD plates on one of their cars for a few months.

There are all kinds of situations like this. Maybe they lived in MD as renters and just bought a house in the district and haven't had a chance to change their registration yet. Maybe the parents have joint custody and one parent lives in DC and the other lives in MD. Maybe a grandparent was dropping the kids off at school, etc.

That was not legal. You need to register a car in the actual place of residence and pay taxes there. Examples like this are no defense. There is no gray zone about your primary place of residence, sorry.

Except that a family who is doubled up with relatives meets the federal definition of homeless, and thus is entitled to keep their kids in the school associated with their prior address. So, legally, the children living in MD with grandparents while waiting for a move can attend school in DC.

We will soon be at posting number 666 after which the beast will be revealed as at southwest DC federal worker residing in Maryland.

I said "car" not "kids."

Sorry, but I doubt that anyone from the Whitman district is sneaking their kids into DCPS. PG on the other hand, has lesser quality schools, serves as the bedroom community for half the DC government workforce and like DC has a rather ingrained culture of petty corruption. So the incentives are just greater.

Wow. It's like you're obsessed. I mean, I knew that. But there you go again.

If I drop off early at DDs elementary school, most of the cars that arrive at that time are from Maryland. The drivers by and large seem to be parents dropping off their kids before going to work.

Do you avert your eyes our pull put your note to scribble down the plates?

I'm pretty sure you wouldn't say hello to the parents of your child's friends, or assume that there might be reasons that have nothing to do with you for them to be in a Maryland car.

My neighbor's son drives to his hrs every day in a car with MD plates. From our DC neighborhood. I don't know why. And I don't give a shit.

Cheating is STEALING. I suspect you people who are fine with residency fraud(theft of services) and failure to register your car in DC are only willing to accept white collar crimes. If your car was stolen, would you feel the same way? Or do you call the police? I mean it is a victimless crime, right?

DC law requires that all vehicles housed and operated in the District be registered in the District unless the owner displays a reciprocity sticker issued by DMV. Persons moving to the District, who have a valid registration from another jurisdiction, have 30 days from the date of entering DC to obtain a registration. Only persons or businesses domiciled in DC are eligible for registration. Vehicles must have a DC title and current DC insurance in order to register.

You know, I might have missed that fact except you've posted it nearly a dozen times already. Do you think you can work in the former mayor and the culture of entitlement too? Are you sad there are black kids in your child's amidon bowen prek4 class?
