It makes no sense that WSHS is the only HS around this area (LBSS, Hayfield, Lewis, South County) where enrollment is up every year while the others are either flat or essentially down. I thought the school was closed to transfers. It's not like the population of this area is growing. |
There were multiple MD license plates in the drop off line for Irving last year. Residency checks now! |
Lake Braddock still has capacity, is open to transfers, and not getting rezoned based on overcapacity. If WSHS was under capacity, open to transfers, and not getting rezoned, no one at WSHS would care about this. We want residency checks, as well as any transfers sent from WSHS to schools that are not closed to transfers, so every family getting disrupted by rezoning knows that the numbers used to justify rezoning are accurate and they aren't getting rezoned to accomkdate families living out of boundary and zoned to other schools. That is not an unreasonable request. Sending the 50-60 transfers to other schools that are open, such as Lake Braddock or South County, would eliminate one trailer. Who knows how much the enrollment would drop if WSHS did a residency check? Even 10-15 students per grade would eliminate the 2nd trailer. |
| Private school kids k-8, then they go to WSHS. |
There are a handful of UMC/wealthy and largely White high schools that have been renovated or expanded that are separating themselves from the rest of FCPS in attracting more kids now: Langley, Madison, Robinson, and West Springfield. People sense that FCPS has played favorites and they gravitate towards those schools. And then the families there fight like hell against moving anywhere else. |
Oakton also got a phenomenal renovation. I’d say the best renovated high schools in all FCPS are Langley and Oakton. Haven’t been to the new Falls Church yet, which isn’t quite finished, but that should be on par—I hope. |
I bet it comes at 11:59pm. |
I didn’t even put together they are off Monday. Someone form fairfacts matters said that BRAC hadn’t even received scenario 4 yet |
That would certainly take the Friday night bad news dump to a new level |
The first community meeting is Monday night. And they still haven't released the maps. This is so unprofessional. |
Just ask yourself - if they struggle so mightily to release sensible proposals in a timely manner, what makes them think they could actually implement boundary changes without major screw-ups? |
I don't think they struggle at all. They just don't care. Because they will still win 12-0 at the next school board election. |
| I think evening is 7:00. |
| The wait is ridiculous. It’s almost 8pm! |
| I feel like we’re not going to see anything today and then we’ll get a 7 paragraph long email from Reid on Tuesday at 4:30 saying that there was a delay and we thank you for your patience, and it will have a link to the new maps but the link will be broken and no one will fix it until Wednesday some time. |
