The ID sessions next week are open (not invite only), so it makes sense that MYS would email all of their families about what’s going on and what team next week’s ID Sessions are for (GA only) and when the GA Aspire ID Sessions will take place (the Spring).

I see this as MYS trying to inform families so they know which ID session they should sign up for vs. trying to drum up a larger volume of potentially unqualified players.

Poor coaches. Not sure how they’re going to filter players if everyone shows up. I can see the chaos there.

It's still the same players that have always been here. The McLean coaches are well familiar with the players. Don't think that these are open sessions where everyone has a fighting chance. They will look at where the player plays now and that's the starting point. Don't expect a whole lot of movement across levels. The GA teams will be made up primarily of girls who are currently playing on ECNL/GA teams, with a few RL players as needed to fill out the rosters

Confused. McLean doesn’t have ECNL but only a few spots will go to current RL players?

Watch ECNL players who don't get a lot of playing time grab a starting spot on a GA team. Some will follow coaches from FVU back to McLean.

Look at it this way: There used to be 5 ECNL and 2 GA teams. That's roughly 7x18 = 126 players per age group. Now there are 3 ECNL + 5 GA teams = 144 players. Those same 126 players will get redistributed across the 8 teams. At least the starters on those 8 teams will almost all be from the same pool of 126 players.

How so? It's a brand new team, right? Are you making the assumption that the vast majority of the FVU girls coming from McLean all leave FVU ECNL to join McLean GA?

Yes likely some FVU girls will leave to join McLean. But there could also be some from Arlington, NVA, VRSC, FCV, VDA, SYC. There are always some unhappy players on every team. Could be lack of playing time, too much depth at one position, hate the coach, not getting along with players, long commutes. Don't assume that all these other teams stay intact.

Don't disagree fully, but I do think more than a decent amount of the current McLean ECNL-R players will be on the McLean GAs team next season.

Will MLS Next 2 have its own league? I know SYC MLS Next 2 just played in EDP. Will it be a region all the way to New York like MLS Next?

They clearly stated ECRL will play aspire. Like the PP said. The GA team will be mostly ECNL/GA players with few RL as needed. But who knows.

Why? Because they said so? So adding an extra “elite” team(s) in the area will all of a sudden produce more “elite” players?

That is super optimistic, of course that is what they stated. How many current ECNL players are going to take a risk on GA and on McLean to not blow things up again next year like they have for the last three.

The new McLean GA team will be those on the bottom of the 28 man Union ECNL roster + a mix of non-starters from local other ECNL clubs and a mix of green, white players. check back in a month, when rosters are published

How likely do you think that is? If you assume most of those players live in Fairfax, the combination of their being a very talented team and being centrally located (roughly in the middle of FVU, Arlington, MYS, NVA, and SYC) means that they can disperse more easily than NVA players and, if they do, there will be considerable knock-on effects across all the ECNL and GA teams.
Anonymous
they players are Union players, i don't think their "home" club really factors much into it.

how many original SYC players left with SYC? the same number will probably leave with McLean.
Anonymous
For FVU, this is a good thing in the long term. Now the FVU coaches can choose the best players available at tryouts and aren’t required to choose either old Brave players or MYS players for their teams. I know for a fact that the boys teams were required to be 50% old Brave and 50% MYS players.
