Official Kamala Harris VP Thread

Let’s take Pete as vp. The WH gift shop will make a killing off of Lil’ Pete booster seats.

If Pete was the “designated survivor” and he had to be in charge we’d all breathe a sigh of relief.

That would be a disaster. McAuliffe isn't on the short list. He isn't even on the long list as a black horse. He's on the "anybody but this candidate" list.

If you can't win your battleground state, you aren't a big enough draw to consider turning that battleground state.

+1. Dem who hates him. He wasn’t a popular governor and no one wanted him again in 2021 (VA off year elections. Bless their hearts. Every single year is an election year in VA). He was so dismissive about parents who were upset that schools had been closed 8 months during COVID with not even an idea as to how and when to reopen. Youngkin didn’t win VA. He lost suburban women with kids learning via laptop and thus lost the state. Just brushed them off with snark. VA was gettable by literally any moderate Dem who wasn’t him. There’s a reason he was nicknamed McAwful.

What are examples of a tough dilemma/situation that was improved by calling Pete?

Kelly or Bashear

Woof, imagine just outing yourself as an idiot on a public forum like that.

I agree, they need to give Pete a serious look. He can talk to midwest voters and I don’t see McKinsey as a problem, once he gets in front of voters it’s hard to dislike him or care about his sexuality. He has a great relationship with Harris and her family, and Pete can talk family values better than anyone.

Agree with all of this. His Iowa win made pretty clear that he has appeal with Midwesterners. That said, I don’t think Pete will be the pick. Harris is focused on the electoral college. It makes me sad, but in the end that’s probably the better strategy.

Anonymous wrote:My guess is down to Bashear and Kelly.

I lean slightly more to Bashear because we seem to like Governors.

Kelly seem like a no brainer.

Navy captain, combat pilot, astronaut and senator.
Temperament and personality appeal in the swing states.
His wife is former Rep. Gabby Giffords, a gun violence survivor (and Jewish). Which is a +2 for swing voters in the swing states.
Comes with his own body double which shoud spawn all sorts of fun conspiracy theories.
Arizona has a Dem Governor so it won't mess up the Senate if Tester and Brown get re-elected.

His main downside is that he's boring. But this is 2024 and the opponent is a narcissistic publicity hound. Boring is a virtue

Did I mention that he's a freaking astronaut?

Kelly has a great resume, no doubt about it. Is there a risk that he would take attention away from Harris? You don’t want the VP to outshine the person at the top of the ticket.

Kelly won’t outshine Harris. He’s boring AF. If we’re going with a boring old white guy go with Cooper. Much stronger in governing.

Apparently NC has a law that whenever Cooper leaves the state, his wackjob Lieutenant becomes acting governor. This would create some complications whenever he hits the campaign trail.
And while Arizona does have a Dem governor, if Kelly leaves his seat there would be a special election in 2026 (otherwise Kelly would be up for re-election in 2028). And an appointed senator would not be nearly as strong a candidate as Kelly himself.
So this is why I think it will be either Beshear or Shapiro.

Shapiro is a hard no due to his stance on Gaza[b]. Secure PA, lose MI. Plus if I were PA resident Id be pissed he jumped ship after 2 years.

In other words: he’s a Jew.

Got it.

No, just him. Do remember Bernie Sanders is Jewish as well.

DP. What was your reasoning behind voting for Youngkin? My understanding from my neighbors (I'm also a NOVA parent) was that it was a combo of anger at state Dems for slow school reopening + McAuliffe's insanely tone-deaf quote about parent involvement in education. Bonus points to Youngkin for keeping Trump away from his campaign trail. But the NOVA votes for Youngkin (IME) were more about anger at Dems for school stuff than it was positivity about Youngkin. I'm honestly curious what you were voting FOR with Youngkin.

Nova Dems have gone too far left. The school boards were resisting Youngkin's reopening and unmasking orders, just because he was the one doing it. They were going to keep doing it until they realized Dems in the state legislate were not going to back them, particularly one Fairfax state senator(Chip?).

uh, no. Let's not blame the school board. Let's go ahead and call it what it was... Youngkin was fear mongering about CRT and "parents not having a voice in education" so it struck a nerve with the Karens who think little Bryceleigh shouldn't get a B or god forbid be in a classroom where the truth about slavery and systemic race issues are taught. It's much easier for little Bryceleigh to learn about George Washington and the cherry tree so mommy can hear about that while waiting in line at Starbees instead of talking about race, equality, etc.

It's true NOVA Dems have gone too far left. But that could be it's own thread...let's stay on topic.

Signed the NOVA mom not ashamed to say she voted for Youngkin...but also a fan of Warner and Caine if you must know. I don't vote for Dem or Rep, I vote for whose policies are in my best interest.

Pete is a great communicator. He's got a message and goes out there and delivers it with precision. He doesn't falter on "gotcha" questions and doesn't get distracted from his point. I really like him and I'm sure he deserves to stay in the cabinet, if he's not the VP pick.
