On Morning Joe they said that they were also asking Whitmer and Tim Walz, the governor of Minnesota, for vetting materials.

Whitmer took herself out of running, Walz does not expand the map

Walz doing great here though.

I agree that his line was great. He also said something like they were all trying to be he-men something something. It was very funny!

This! This is how you get “normal” American men on board. Paint the MAGAs as the angry weirdos they are. Peter Thiel? Elon Musk? This is who we want driving our policies? Never mind the religious nutters. In order to get the middle you have to convince people that the other side is more extreme than yours.

Is it legislatively impossible? Has this ever been done? Why not?

Oh. Please go learn about early American elections. It used to be that the runner up in the presidential race became the VP.

OK - fine...but for this forum....when and why did that stop?

And the Dems have no hope of Kamala winning Indiana. Get a swing state VP: Shapiro/PA, Kelly/AZ, Cooper/NC

I wish we were, but we are not.

Meh, people said the same about Obama. I think people underestimate the feelings of many in this country post Trump. Women are not going to let a Hillary-style loss happen again. Buttiigieg is an attack dog and he's super likeable. There are safer choices but they're also boring. I think she should go for broke with Pete.

Obama had a wife and two kids.

They also had Biden as VP

Do you think he would have won with a female VP while or otherwise or who was a lesbian.
Prejudice aside many people do not like Pete period. I have Midwest connections and they hate him as much as Pence. .

Some of you really need to peek outside of your DC bubbles and echo chambers

I agree, they need to give Pete a serious look. He can talk to midwest voters and I don’t see McKinsey as a problem, once he gets in front of voters it’s hard to dislike him or care about his sexuality. He has a great relationship with Harris and her family, and Pete can talk family values better than anyone.

Pete brings zero to the ticket. Mark Kelly is the obvious choice.

Love him, but can’t risk his seat.

It's probably not his time yet, but he is SO good. He can put people in their place in the nicest possible way.

Obama chose Joe Biden as his running mate for this exact reason.

No, he was planning to pick Tim Kaine to win Virginia, until Putin invaded Georgia.

He'd make a great cabinet secretary. He's spent 3 years as Transportation, he can be considered for a higher up cabinet or inner circle role. I think he would be fantastic as the Press Secretary. That's where his best strengths lie, in great spin, sound bites and very firmly emphasizing the positive aspects of presidential action. Alternatively, with his experience now, he might also make a decent chief of staff, but he's still a little green and still doesn't have quite enough political ties and friendships to make that work. The CoS is the ultimate smoozer that truly needs inside connections to make things happen.

But he does not have the personal facade that is a good political frontman that the VP needs. In part because a majority of the country is not ready to elect an LGBTQ national leader. We've made huge progress in the last 20 years with more and more LGBTQ being elected to statewide and local officers and even Congressional Representatives, but those are happening in the more liberal states and jurisdictions. We are not ready for a nationwide LGBTQ candidate. He would be a negative drag on the campaign if she were to select him. Hopefully we will get there, but we are still pretty far from that point right now.

McAuliffe for VP

It will be Shapiro’s if he wants it. Swing state governor, very moderate. Kamala needs a white man in order to not completely hemmorage white men to Trump.

Republicans will go full out in painting a black woman as antisemitic/anti-Israel. Shapiro neutralizes that entire line of attack, plus will keep Jewish donors engaged/excited.

A black and Jewish ticket? Dems and their huge tent. Will alienate undecided Christians will they turn out for orange head then?

That would be a disaster. McAuliffe isn't on the short list. He isn't even on the long list as a black horse. He's on the "anybody but this candidate" list.

If you can't win your battleground state, you aren't a big enough draw to consider turning that battleground state.

That may be his official declared residency and where he votes, but he isn't really from Michigan. They've had declared residency there for 2 years, but during that time, they've spent most of their time in DC for his job as Transportation Secretary. If he tried to run as a candidate from Michigan, he'd join the long list of Republican carpetbaggers who claim they are from the states they are running in. But at last most of those candidates were born or spent a significant amount of their lives there, just not in recent years. Michigan is his husband's home state, not his.

Loving Tim Walz right now. Smart and funny, veteran who can speak effectively to rust belt.
