Rehoboth got expensive

The place was not swamped like in previous years. There was plenty of chance for the kids to ride all the rides they wanted (even 2-3 times) without having to wait in very long lines.

$5 for non rider??? What? I paid $80 for the four of us and basically only 1 kid cared fo ride. Such a ripoff.

Traffic this week is crazy. Next year we’ll stick to our late May and early June trips (plus off season trips) and hit elsewhere in July and August.

We’re lucky since our friends lend us their beach house for free. I cannot imagine spending $$$$$ to go to DE.

We have a place in Bethany and I too have never seen it as crowded as it was this week. We went to pick something up from DBs Seafood last night, and they had a sign on the door apologizing for closing early and noting they ran out of food! Hopefully crowds subside once post-pandemic travel fever does.

I’m the pp you quoted. Bethany was ridiculous this week!

Funland just switched back to the old tickets. They will also do the wristband thing/unlimited rides between 1-4.

My college aged son has 12 HS friends working/living in OC this year (all together in one house with 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms!!) because jobs are plentiful and they can make so much. They are working as waiters, bouncers, and a couple enterprising ones as apprentices to HVAC people. I admire their initiative, though I’m horrified by the sounds of their living conditions, not that the Eastern European teens ever had decent housing either.

I paid $500 a month in 1996 to live like this. 12 girls 6 bedrooms and 2 baths. Amazingly, the only time it was a problem was graduation day. We would’ve been fine in bunk beds and fewer bedrooms.

I’m guessing you and your friends were a bit more diligent about cleaning than it sounds like this crew is! And every weekend a few of their friends come from DC to crash with them. It does sound like a fun thing to do for a summer or two—like beach week plus steady employment.

I guess the folks who go to Mexico and the Caribbean have it all wrong! Better tell all those destination weddings to switch to Rehoboth!

I don't they were talking about weddings. But different strokes. We like Rehoboth because it's close by for a quick get away. No hassle. Our family has been going there for 40 years and it's become our tradition. Every year, we kick off the end of school year with a weekend trip to the Rehoboth. Nothing glamerous but I have so many good memories with my cousins, driving through miles and miles of cornfields and reaching the beach, catching crabs at dusk, flying kites.

I’m with ya. Been going to rehoboth my entire life and my parents were going before me. 50 years! Best local beach. Bethany is a snooze.

We have a house in Delaware and we considered North Carolina when buying but it’s not realistic to drive that far for a weekend. We often used to come here for just a few days but now spend the summer here and it beats being in DC, that’s for sure. We be home in under three hours (unless we leave on a Sunday obvsly). It is WAY more crowded this year than I’ve seen it in the ten years we’ve been coming here.

Agree. renting a house on or near the water is gonna cost you about $8-10k per week in the peak summer weaks. That's insane. I'd much take that money and fly to the carribean or fly to europe! I get driving and convenience but man, that is a tough pill to swallow!

We just back from Bethany. I used points to stay at the Residence Inn, otherwise it would have cost $950/night plus parking. That is insane.

It’s outdoors!

It’s super crowded and some
Of the rides and games are enclosed.

Definitely not the kids which is why everyone is there!

This. I guarantee you 60-70% of the kids in funland are not vaccinated.

Back to the thread, I've seen house weekly rentals of $10k+ for houses near or at the beach. That is insane. Might as well go to the Caribbean or Europe!

Yeah we are flying to cape cod where it isn’t sweltering. I can’t imagine paying what people pay for our beaches.

Good call. I'd rather spend a week in Maine, Hilton Head, MV, etc paying that rate.
