I have a new indulgence, and it's ridiculous and I love it

And, cupcakes. I fell into the Instagram hole of videos with people frosting cupcakes and now I'm doing a little tasting survey of local NoVa bakeries. Buzz Bakery is winning right now, Alexandria Cupcake in 2nd. Anyone have suggestions on other cupcake shops?

Bakeshop in Clarendon and Falls Church. Their cupcakes are delicious.

Right now I have three bagels left, and my plan is to eat out as much of my freezer as possible to create more space, and then order another two dozen.

NY transplant here. I love Essa! Closest to a true NY style I’ve had in DC is Bagels Etc in DuPont.
I don’t get the trendier places like call your mother or Bethesda bagels. Those bagels always seem sort of hard, dry, or super dense and chewy. Maybe that’s a DC thing?

I had to give up fairs so my new indulgence is the coolhaus horchata dairy free ice cream sandwich. It’s $4 for one so I try to cut it in half but usually end up eating the whole thing.

100%. These are the best in this area. Bethesda Bagels is terrible. Huge doughy messes. Haven't tried Call Your Mother but they look like they have way too much going on.

You can buy those at the Amish markets.

Given how this forum has so many people with disordered eating habits, I imagine there will be a lot of "OMG DO YOU KNOW HOW BAD BAGELS ARE?" "wow you must be fat OP" "I can't imagine eating that many bagels" etc etc etc.

Yup! I have up resting bagels when I read that eating one bagel is like eating five slices of bread. I would never say five slices of bread.

Reviving this thread as I live in a bagel desert and want to order bagels for the high holidays. Yes, I know Yom Kippur isn’t for a couple of weeks but my college age dd just left and she has been on a low carb diet. In solidarity, I have not bought bagels for quite awhile so I could use one now lol. In any event, what is the best company on Goldbelly? Essa? St. Viatur? Russ and Daughters? Somewhere else? Thanks!!!

Anonymous wrote:My indulgence is the Hershey's candy cane kisses that you can only get at Christmas.

In January, I found them on clearance at a small grocery store and bought 12 bags of them. 1 bag a month to last me until next Christmas.

I have 3 bags left.

OMG those kisses are so good!!! I admire your ability to make those bags last all year.

Another NY transplant here. What you want is Goldberg's in Silver Spring or Rockville.

FYI, FreshDirect has Utopia bagels from New York that you can get. Also Carnegie deli pastrami and Juliana's pizzas.

Try Baked by Yael across from the zoo. Agree with PP that Bethesda Bagels are not good.

OP: I’m amazed you have ANY left. Enjoy!

There’s a bagel place in DuPont on P around 22nd. Excellent. No idea what it’s called because in my house we call it “Amazing Bagels.” Better than Goldberg’s, Call Your Mother (not real bagels), etc…
