Which Area Private Schools Have the Largest Endowments?

I think you're either being paranoid or else intentionally trying to stir up conflict. I just went to each school's website, typed in "endowment" in the search box, and found plenty of info. I suspect a simple Google or Bing search would yield further info.

Maret: http://www.maret.org/support_maret/endowment/index.aspx
NCS: http://www.ncs.cathedral.org/podium/default.aspx?t=204&nid=669395&bl=back&rc=0
SFS: http://www.sidwell.edu/documents/zartman/campaignNewsletter.pdf
StA: http://www.stalbansschool.org/page.aspx?pid=660

Poster: it is you that is paranoid. People are asking for specific information. You do a search and copy and paste garbage that you have not even read that does not provide the information posters are asking for: What is the present endowment of STA and Sidwell?

Under this subterfuge you dare call another paranoid or trying to stirr things up.

Why are you so fearful or threatened by accurate data and information?

If you are not interested in this fine. Shu up and don't serve up garbage and an accusatory finger.

You should Windex your computer monitor, or maybe change your eyeglass prescription. Every one of those links has endowment numbers. You even copied and pasted the Maret number without seeing it. If you don't want to read the page, try searching ("control-F") for the word "endowment." PP (you?) claimed the endowment info is hidden, and that's simply untrue.

Fund raising goals and benchmarks do not constitute actual endowment numbers by any known accounting standards.

If you refuse to read the actual pages, I can't help you. The actual endowment numbers are there. I can't understand your inability to read. As one example, here's what the StA link says: "Our endowment has now grown to $37.5 million, up $15.5 million the past last three years, with an annual growth rate of 12.2 percent."

How can it be any more clear?

I stand corrected on that particular link. My apologies.

Thanks for the links.

Of note is the relatively high acceptance rates to our area elite and prestigious private high schools (between 30 and 50 percent). Maret (10%) and Sidwell (19%) are the most selective private high schools in the area. All the rest accept above 30 percent of their applicants.

If you are not legacy, big donor, sibling taking up a good number of those high school seats already, the admission acceptance chances go down considerably.

Thanks for the apology -- it's rare and refreshing. I promise you the numbers are there on the other links I posted as well.

Duly noted. I am due for refraction and an eye exam soon!

Aha! The answer to a hotly debated question in an older thread. Anecdotally, it always seemed that Maret was even tougher than Sidwell. Now we know it's true! (And we can all feel better about not getting in.)

Not tougher -- just smaller.

I think these numbers are 2-3 years old. I know Holton's endowment was $51m before the markets melted down and it was lower last year. Don't know how much it has recovered since. Would assume similar fluctuations at other schools.

This is taken from Holton's current FAQ page

The school has no reason to inflate the numbers. From what I have heard Holton has for many years had one of the largest endowments in this area! It is a fabulous school and people continue to support which says a lot about this school.
